If you are looking for a hotel in Nünchritz, your travel plans can help you choose a destination: Are you mainly interested in cycling and hiking, wine villages along the Elbe, or excursions to natural and cultural attractions? The following routes and places offer different ways to match your interests with what the region has to offer.

Cycling and Hiking Tours

In the Elbe wine villages, you can follow the Elbe Cycle Route as a circular tour on both sides of the river. A public car park with spaces for motorhomes serves as a starting point for cycling and hiking tours. An ADAC bicycle service station is located directly on the route. As infrastructure can change, check local conditions before setting off.

For hiking, the Saxon Wine Hiking Trail runs in six stages from Pirna to Diesbar-Seußlitz. Stops on a wine and culture audio guide are part of the route; one is located at Heinrichsburg. You can choose between a circular tour on both sides of the Elbe and a hiking route with six stages. Signage and the availability of audio guides may change—check before your tour.

Excursions and Wine Villages

Nearby attractions include the Nünchritz Local History Museum, Goltzscha natural swimming lake with camping, the Hebelei Nature Discovery Centre with its Elbe Animal Park, Hirschstein Castle, Meißen’s old town, and the monastery complex in Riesa. This gives you a range of options for planning, from a museum and natural swimming lake to an old town and a castle. Access and operating arrangements may change; if needed, check with the attractions in advance when planning your excursions.

In Diesbar-Seußlitz, wineries and restaurants with terraces overlooking the Elbe are part of the visitor experience. If you have specific plans to dine out, it is a good idea to check the opening hours of individual establishments. The wine stops can also be combined with a hiking trip: the Saxon Wine Hiking Trail reaches Diesbar-Seußlitz, while the wineries and terraces there offer a dedicated stop for wine enthusiasts.

Meißen: Culture in the Wider Destination

In the wider destination of Meißen, you can sample Meissen wine in the city of Meißen and in the surrounding Elbe wine villages along the river. At the visitor centre of the State Porcelain Manufactory Meissen, you can see how Meissen porcelain is shaped and painted. Wine and porcelain thus offer two distinct ways to experience the city and its culture.

The Meißen City Museum is housed in the former Franciscan monastery in the heart of the old town. Historical models illustrate the city’s development; large exhibits cover winegrowing as well as fishing and shipping on the Elbe. Typical Meissen porcelain and ceramic products are also part of the exhibition. In addition to its permanent exhibition, the museum presents changing special exhibitions twice a year.

At Albrechtsburg Castle, virtual presentations and interactive media stations bring the castle’s history to life. The HistoPad offers an interactive discovery tour featuring augmented reality and 3D presentations; nine time gates take visitors back to the 15th century. The history of the House of Wettin is also presented at Albrechtsburg Castle. As exhibition displays may change, check the latest visitor information before your visit.

For an overview of the architecture, the heritage trail leads through the historic old town of Meißen, characterised by Gothic and Renaissance architecture. It takes in 25 historic buildings, including the late Gothic town hall, the Renaissance portal, Albrechtsburg Castle, the cathedral, the Bishop’s Castle and the cathedral chapter houses. From the castle hill, you can look out over the rooftops of the old town and the Elbe river landscape.

At the Hahnemann Centre in Meißen, located in the ruins of the “Holy Cross” monastery, Samuel Hahnemann’s legacy is maintained through seminars, exhibitions and lectures. The monastery ruins also host concerts, theatrical performances and the traditional Rose Festival several times a year. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the latest dates.
