Schlaitz combines heathland and forests with wildlife watching and local sights. The variety is useful when planning your trip: the nature trail and seasonal excursions offer a different focus from the wooden sculptures, blacksmith’s shop and village church. This lets you decide in advance whether nature or local sights should play a bigger part in your stay.

Schlaitz between heath and forest

Schlaitz lies in heathland and is surrounded by pine and mixed forests. West of the village, the “Tiefkippe Schlaitz” nature reserve, with an approximately 15-metre-high stand slope, directly borders undisturbed terrain. The wooded heathland and the slope west of the village are distinct features of the natural landscape.

Signposted cycling and hiking trails extend for many kilometres from Schlaitz into the DĂĽbener Heide area. This offers a different focus from the sights in the village: the trails invite you to take routes from Schlaitz into the DĂĽbener Heide area. You can therefore consider the landscape and trails as separate themes for your trip.

Nature trail, excursions and wildlife watching

The “Bergbaufolgelandschaft Muldestausee” nature trail is 17 kilometres long. HAUS AM SEE Schlaitz offers excursions along the nature trail. If you would like to include an excursion in your plans, check the dates in advance. The stated route length also makes the trail a destination in its own right, rather than just another sight in the village.

From April to August, excursions into the “Tiefkippe Schlaitz” nature reserve include observing the osprey habitat. If these observations are important to your travel plans, take the seasonal period into account. The permanent exhibition at HAUS AM SEE includes more than 80 taxidermied animals. Observations are transmitted directly to a large screen at HAUS AM SEE. The exhibition of taxidermied animals and the live transmission of observations offer two different ways to explore the subject.

Free parking is available close to HAUS AM SEE. This is a practical detail if you plan to visit the exhibition or join an excursion.

Wooden sculptures and sights in the village

The wooden sculpture trail is one of Schlaitz’s sights. Chainsaw artists add new works to it every year. These annual additions give the trail a different focus from the individual sights in the village. One of the most notable places to visit in Schlaitz is the Old Blacksmith’s Shop.

St Mary’s Church in Schlaitz stands opposite the Peace Oak in the village centre. Its curved, slate-covered roof turret is a distinctive architectural feature. Together with its location opposite the Peace Oak, the church offers two different points of reference: its roof shape and its place in the centre of the village. The wooden sculpture trail, blacksmith’s shop and church form a distinct theme alongside the landscape and wildlife watching.

Water and nature in the wider Muldestausee area

In the wider Muldestausee area, Muldestausee and Gröberner See offer opportunities for fishing, sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, rowing, canoeing and dragon boating. Dübener Heide offers hiking trails as well as cultural and nature experiences throughout the year. When planning your trip, you can choose between activities on the water, trails, and nature or cultural themes.
