Plodda combines nature-related attractions with local history. For travellers choosing a destination based on its landscape and local features, there are several distinct points of interest: a nature trail around the so-called Grassin, woodland areas north and south of the village, the bell tower and a historic record set by the Plodda Schalmei band. The Muldestausee/Schlaitz recreation centre is also nearby. This means there is plenty to explore, from experiencing nature in Plodda to a regional watersports attraction.

Nature Trail and Woodland Areas

In June 2025, a nature trail around the so-called “Grassin” was opened in Plodda. It is around 2.5 kilometres long and takes visitors through the local flora and fauna. There are 15 information boards along the trail. They cover the region’s flora and fauna, as well as litter prevention and considerate ways of enjoying nature. Many of the boards feature QR codes that visitors can scan on their smartphones to listen to the calls of the animals described. The content thus combines information about nature with advice on treating it responsibly; the QR codes complement the boards with an audio introduction to animal calls.

In addition to the nature trail, extensive woodland areas north and south of Plodda shape the landscape. They offer plenty of scope for long walks, during which visitors can observe flora and fauna or enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest. Well-signposted walking trails pass through Plodda. The nature attractions have different focuses: the trail offers information and animal calls, while the woodland areas invite visitors to take long walks, observe nature and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Bell Tower and Musical Local History

Plodda’s bell tower was built in 1869 and features a unique design. Its history also includes its relocation to the municipal cemetery: it was moved about 100 metres using a large crane and a tractor-trailer. Today, the bell tower stands beside the funeral hall. Its year of construction, distinctive design and location make the building’s history a tangible part of Plodda’s local history.

Another part of Plodda’s local history is the world record set by the Plodda Schalmei band. The band set the record in Plodda in 2007, with 33 bands from across Germany taking part; 723 participants were involved in total. Alongside the building, this musical event has its own place in history, defined by the year it took place and the number of participating bands and people.

Muldestausee and Watersports

The Muldestausee/Schlaitz recreation centre is located near Plodda. The Muldestausee covers an area of 6.3 square kilometres. Sailing regattas, dragon boat races, and canoe and rowing competitions are held there regularly. This regional attraction differs from the nature-related attractions in Plodda itself: at the Muldestausee, the focus is on the expanse of water and sporting competitions, while the nature trail and woodland areas offer different experiences. If you are travelling specifically for a particular competition, check the event dates in advance.
