Spa tradition and local character

Bad Salzig can be explored through three specific interests: the Leonoren Spring and spa tradition, the historic parkland, and culture and hiking. The Leonoren Spring is one of the few Glauber’s salt springs in Germany. This distinction can help you weigh the sights according to the actual reason for your trip.

Spa park and summer events

Bad Salzig Spa Park was laid out as a landscape garden at the end of the 19th century. The park’s character is shaped by mature trees, winding paths, a natural pond and an extensive network of hiking trails. Meadows, open woodlands, orchards and terraced vineyards extend into the surrounding area. The historic bathhouse is also part of the spa park. Its landscape-garden design and transition into the surrounding countryside offer two different perspectives: the park itself and the wider landscape into which it merges.

Open-air concerts are held in the spa park in summer. This seasonal use adds open-air cultural events to its historic character. Two different time frames can help you plan your visit: St. Aegidius Church is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., while the open-air concerts take place in summer. If you would like to experience both, plan your stay around a specific concert date and check the church’s opening hours for your visit. If no concert date fits your trip, you can plan a separate visit to the church during its daily opening hours.

The church and its architectural history

St. Aegidius Church was built between 1899 and 1901 as a Gothic Revival hall church. Inside is a late Gothic sacrament shrine. In a hall church, the nave and side aisles are approximately the same height; “Gothic Revival,” by contrast, refers to the architectural style. The late Gothic shrine adds an earlier historical reference to the building. The church is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; check the opening hours again before your visit.

Hiking with scenic views

The official starting point of the FĂĽnfseenblick Dream Loop is in Bad Salzig Spa Park. Along the hike, you can enjoy views of the Rhine Valley and the uplands of the HunsrĂĽck, Eifel, Taunus and Westerwald. While the park is defined by landscaped paths and mature trees, the hike opens up views of wider landscapes. Check trail conditions before setting out.
