Frauenberg: Frauenburg Ruins and the Gräfin Loretta Dream Loop
Accommodation in Frauenberg
The Frauenburg Ruins and the Gräfin Loretta Dream Loop offer two distinct focuses for planning your trip to Frauenberg: a castle complex with surviving structural features and a longer circular hike with several named stops.
Frauenburg Ruins and walking route
At the Frauenburg Ruins, a striking shield wall, the keep, a smaller tower and the remains of a chapel have survived. The different structural features give a tangible impression of the complex: the defensive wall and towers stand alongside the remains of the chapel. It is about 800 metres on foot from the car park to the castle. This can be planned as a short walk in its own right and is distinct from the longer circular hike.
The Gräfin Loretta Dream Loop
The Gräfin Loretta Dream Loop is a circular route about 12.5 kilometres long. The hike takes around 3.5 hours; it is rated moderately difficult and includes steeper sections. Highlights include Frauenburg, Nahekopf, the Nahe and Klausfelsen, as well as viewpoints and picnic spots. The route thus combines named natural attractions and rest stops with a visit to the ruins, while the walk from the car park to the castle is a much shorter option.
Trail conditions may vary after heavy rain. Take this into account when planning if you intend to hike the loop. The approximate duration and steeper sections can help you estimate how much time to allow for the hike; they are no substitute for checking conditions on site.
Starting point and how to get there
The loop starts at the Ufer hiking car park on Bahnhofstraße, near the Frauenburg Ruins. The nearby Frauenberg/Mitte and Frauenberg/Gasthaus Thalbach stops are served by bus route 820. Parking is available at the Frauenburg car park by the Nahe. This lets you take the starting point, bus access and parking into account when planning your day, without confusing information about the stops with the walk to the castle.
Check timetables and parking regulations before you travel, as public transport services and parking conditions may change. This will help you choose a starting time that fits your planned journey.
