Warmsroth: Forest, Pilgrimage Route and Roman Traces
Accommodation in Warmsroth
Warmsroth lies on the edge of larger forest areas; almost half of the municipality’s area is wooded. This gives the choice of location a clear connection to nature, while the pilgrimage route, chapel, bell tower and history of Roman villas also bring historical themes into focus. For getting here, direct access to the A 61 motorway provides a clear point of reference. If you are looking for accommodation, you can plan your stay around nature, hiking or historic buildings.
Forest and Pilgrimage Route
The Hildegard of Bingen Pilgrimage Route provides a concrete guide for planning your day. Its approximately 10-kilometre section from Stromberg to Bingen passes through Warmsroth and leads to St. Pankratius Chapel before continuing into the Bingen Forest. The section is estimated to take about five hours; both the distance and duration are approximate. If you plan to walk this route, both figures refer to the Stromberg–Bingen section and give an indication of a hike lasting several hours. The chapel is also a stop on the Hildegard Pilgrimage Route and has a meditation plaque.
St. Pankratius Chapel
The chapel lies in a small hollow, surrounded by meadows and a horse farm. It is thought to date from the 15th century and is dedicated to St. Pancras. The graves of the von Guerin family and the grave of de Requile, a former owner, can be seen inside the chapel. It is used for civil and non-religious weddings; church weddings and baptisms are not permitted there. If you are planning a ceremony, check the applicable arrangements in advance.
The Wald-Erbach Roman Villa
The archaeological reconstruction of the Wald-Erbach Roman Villa shows a 38-metre-wide, imposing façade facing the valley. A colonnade stood between two projecting wings. The villa dates from the 2nd century to the beginning of the 4th century. Its central room measured approximately 15 by 13 metres and contained a documented well. These room dimensions give a concrete sense of the scale of the central area. The reconstruction also shows a bath at the southwest corner as a possible later addition.

A bookable guided tour of Wald-Erbach Castle and Chapel introduces the history of the complex. It is intended for groups of 4 to 20 people and is recommended for visitors aged 16 and over. Check the booking details before making the tour a firm part of your travel plans.
The Bell Tower as a Local Landmark
The medieval bell tower is Warmsroth’s landmark; its Baroque spire dates from 1754.
Religious History
The former Catholic church in Warmsroth became Protestant in 1558. After that, Warmsroth’s Catholics attended the Simultankirche in Stromberg.
