Kirschroth brings together viticulture, forest and trails through the countryside. The Fox Trail is a circular route through fields, forests and vineyards; the village also has a motorhome parking area, a long tradition of viticulture and a church with a late Gothic detail. Nature, outdoor activities and local history offer different ways to plan your trip.

Vineyards, forest and the Fox Trail

Kirschroth lies 260 metres above sea level and is one of the highest viticultural communities in Rhineland-Palatinate. The village is home to around 80 hectares of vineyards and 284 hectares of forest. You can explore the countryside around Kirschroth on foot along the Fox Trail, a circular route through fields, forests and vineyards.

The trail climbs to 450 metres and offers views across the Nahe Valley and the North Palatine Uplands. On a clear day, the view also reaches as far as the Hunsrück. These views are therefore dependent on clear conditions. If you plan to walk the Fox Trail, the starting point is at the community hall in the village centre, where parking is available. There are numerous rest stops along the route. Check the latest route details and parking situation before setting out.

Out and about around Kirschroth

The motorhome parking area is also set among vineyards, fields and forest. It serves as a starting point for the Fox Trail, walks through the vineyards and cycling tours along the Nahe. The circular trail and cycling tours along the Nahe are therefore different options to consider when planning your trip.

The parking area can accommodate up to four large motorhomes or trailers. There is a playground and a large football pitch directly beside it. Electricity is available for a fee; fresh water is available at the nearby community hall. Capacity and facilities may change. Check the current capacity, electricity supply and fees before you arrive.

Viticulture and places to eat and drink

Viticulture has been part of life in Kirschroth for generations. The local vineyards grow Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Dornfelder, Pinot Noir, Rivaner, Bacchus and Regent grapes. Local soils, climate and the tradition of viticulture shape the character of the wines. Viticulture is therefore not just part of the landscape, but also a way to explore the village’s history.

After a hike, you may find the doors of Kirschroth’s wineries and hospitality businesses open. Whether a visit is possible depends on current opening hours, so check them in advance. This lets you combine a day on the trail with a possible visit to a winery or hospitality business, without assuming set opening times.

Local history and the church

Kirschroth was first mentioned in 1364 under the name “Rodde.” Alongside viticulture, agriculture remained the dominant activity until well into the 20th century. Both are part of the village’s long-term development.

Kirschroth’s church was built in 1850 as a late-classical hall church made of red sandstone blocks. A late Gothic sacrament house from an earlier chapel is preserved in the tower. The church building thus brings together its 1850 construction date and an element from an older chapel. Along with the village’s early recorded name, the church provides another specific point of reference for local history.
