Discover Eich
Accommodation in Eich
In Eich, you can shape your stay around water, cycling, nature and local history. The Altrhein Badesee Eich, a circular trail with stops by the water and several options for bike rides offer different highlights. You can also learn about local history and the landscape of the Eich-Gimbsheim Old Rhine. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip to Eich, you can start by considering which of these interests you want to shape your daily plans.
Swimming Lake and Activities on the Water
Swimming at the Altrhein Badesee Eich is free, but at your own risk and without DLRG lifeguard supervision. The lake has around 14,000 square metres of sandy beach and an adjoining sunbathing lawn. Facilities include a playground, a beach volleyball court and a bocce court, changing facilities, toilets and parking. Swimming and safety rules, as well as facilities, may change; check the latest information before your visit.
Sailing, motorboating and fishing are available at Eicher See. The second boat ramp is in the western section on the Eich side, at Falkenweg 25. If you are planning one of these activities, check the applicable rules in advance; access infrastructure may also change.
Getting Around on Foot and by Bike
A specific starting point for a walk is the six-kilometre circular trail, which begins at the fire station on Osthofenerstraße. It runs around three Old Rhine lakes and passes a bathing beach and a former river course. It also features ten information stations, observation huts and a viewing tower. The route combines nature watching with insights into the waterscape, without requiring you to plan a longer bike ride.
Cycling routes in the Eich collective municipality have few inclines and are considered suitable for family rides, though individual routes may vary. As part of a longer tour, the 1,230-kilometre Veloroute Rhein runs through Worms, Hamm, Eich, Gimbsheim, Mainz and Bingen. For planning, the Tourist Information Centre of the EICH collective municipality offers a leisure map showing the area's cycling routes, as well as information about cycling routes in Rheinhessen. These materials may be updated or relocated, so it is worth checking the latest information.
Old Rhine Landscape and Wildlife
The Altrhein Badesee Eich consists of three sections and was created by gravel and sand extraction. Rare orchid, grass and reed species can be found in the Eich-Gimbsheim Old Rhine; threatened dragonfly and amphibian species also find refuge there. The AltrheinErlebnisPfad focuses on the 667-hectare Natura 2000 site of the Eich-Gimbsheim Old Rhine. Its reed beds provide a habitat for rare and specialist bird species, as well as other rare or endangered wildlife. The lake, protected area and biodiversity each offer a different focus for anyone interested in the landscape.
History in Eich and Gimbsheim
The Eich Local History Museum presents the town's history through everyday and craft objects, mammoth bones from the Ice Age and other historical finds. The Eich collective municipality museum in Gimbsheim has a different exhibition layout: it is housed in the former stork schoolhouse and comprises three themed rooms and a room for temporary exhibitions. Items on display include an Ice Age mammoth skeleton, Roman and Frankish finds, and an eighth-century ship mill discovered in Gimbsheim. The two collections thus each have their own focus on local history and archaeological finds.
This way, you can begin your choice with the kind of trip you want, without having to fit all the activities into the same itinerary.
