Meuspath: Nordschleife and Local History
Accommodation in Meuspath
Meuspath brings together several themes for a stay: access to the Nordschleife on In der Stroth street, local history closely linked to NĂĽrburg and the Krebsbacher Hof, and activities for families and hikers. Are you mainly planning tourist drives, would you like to discover historical landmarks, or are you interested in hiking opportunities in the wider NĂĽrburgring Experience Region?
The Nordschleife and tourist drives
The Nordschleife lies in the heart of the Eifel. Its entrance is in Meuspath, on In der Stroth street. It was completed in 1927 and measures 20.8 kilometres. It also has 73 turns and an elevation difference of 300 metres. These track figures refer to the Nordschleife. Tourist drives are offered both there and on the Grand Prix circuit; visitors can take part by car or motorcycle. Opening times may change. If you are planning to include a drive in your trip, check the current schedule.
Local history and historical landmarks
The local history of Meuspath and the associated Krebsbacher Hof is closely linked to Nürburg. The name Meuspath is traditionally derived from “Muspach,” interpreted as “settlement by a swamp stream.” Meuspath’s historic landmarks include a cross on the main road dating from 1772. South of Meuspath, on the K 20, the Krebsbacher Hof is a historic complex. It comprises a Baroque chapel dating from 1702, a moat and a substantial building whose origins probably date back to the 16th century.
In chronological order, the farm building is the oldest of the three dated landmarks: its origins are believed to date back to the 16th century, the chapel dates from 1702 and the cross from 1772. The building’s date is explicitly uncertain. The buildings and local history can thus be explored through landmarks from different centuries.
Hiking and family activities
An alpaca and llama hike for the whole family is associated with Meuspath-Balkhausen. Dates and availability may change; check both before making plans. In the wider NĂĽrburgring Experience Region, hiking experiences range from old mills to the racetrack. This offers themes related to families and the landscape, as well as motorsport, for planning your trip.
More to explore in the wider Ahrweiler destination
The wider Ahrweiler destination offers further cultural and hiking opportunities. The Schützen House in Ahrweiler displays art-historical treasures from the past three centuries, including uniforms, pictorial documentation and historic marksmen’s rifles. The three Ahrweiler marksmen’s associations have operated a museum since 2002; visits are by prior arrangement. Visitors to the Roman Villa at Silberberg in Ahrweiler can view a model of the Roman estate and an audiovisual presentation.
The certified hiking trails Rheinburgenweg, Eifelleiter and AhrSteig are in Ahrweiler district. The Red Wine Hiking Trail and numerous marked local trails extend the district’s hiking network. The district of Ahrweiler also appeals to cycling tourists in particular with the Rheinradweg and Ahrradweg cycle routes.
