Neuenkirchen combines cultural attractions, a waterside recreation area and a range of cycling routes. When looking for a hotel, this variety can help you tailor your stay to your plans: historic architecture and local history, nature watching, a loop around the lake or a cycling route with a described course. The destinations differ both in subject matter and in scope.

Culture and Local History

St. Anna Parish Church was built between 1896 and 1899 in the neo-Romanesque style. The more than 200-year-old, listed Villa Hecking provides a different historical accent. It was built as the residence of the Hecking textile-manufacturing family. The park at the villa is ideal for walks and hosts musical brunch events as well as open-air performances. The events programme may vary depending on the season. The sculptures in the park are by artist Otmar Alt.

As a local history museum, the Heimathaus is dedicated to traditional crafts and rural life. It opened in 2001; its permanent exhibition also includes finds thousands of years old from limestone and gravel pits around Neuenkirchen. The town’s history therefore brings together a range of subjects: the architectural history of St. Anna, the villa’s former role as a residence, and everyday life and landscape history at the Heimathaus.

Water and Nature at Offlumer See

Offlumer See originated as a former gravel pit and was developed as a recreation area. Larger areas were left to develop naturally. The circular walking trail around the lake takes about an hour and a half and offers the opportunity to observe flora and fauna. This provides a practical point of reference when planning your day if you would like to allow time for a walk by the water. Neuenkirchen’s natural outdoor swimming facility includes a natural lake and a beach.

Comparing Cycling Routes

The RadBahn Münsterland runs through Neuenkirchen along a former railway line between Coesfeld and Rheine. The Triangel is a cycling connection around 62 kilometres long that links the centres of Metelen, Neuenkirchen, Ochtrup, Rheine, Steinfurt and Wettringen. The routes’ points of reference therefore differ: the RadBahn focuses on the former railway line between Coesfeld and Rheine, while the Triangel is defined by its stated length and the connection between several town centres.
