Dreierwalde is shaped by agriculture and combines a rural character with paths and historic buildings. The town offers different points of interest to help you plan your trip: you can focus on the landscape, cycling and hiking trails, or architectural history.

Landscape and trails in Dreierwalde

“Lünnemanns Pättken” runs through woods, fields and open countryside near the Aabrücke. Its route through these different types of landscape gives the trail its own character. Agriculture dominates Dreierwalde’s outward appearance; at the same time, the trail takes you through woodland and farmland. The Aabrücke is the named landmark in the trail description.

The “Hörstel - Hopsten” Kirchwege Route also starts in Hörstel-Dreierwalde. It goes via Hörstel-Ostenwalde and returns to Dreierwalde, covering about 24 kilometres. The route is flat. These details give you a clear idea of its length and terrain when choosing a route for your trip. Dreierwalde is also linked to Spelle, Hopsten and Hörstel by cycling and hiking trails, and is connected to the NRW cycling network.

Village character and architectural history

The area around St. Anna Church has been lovingly redesigned, helping Dreierwalde preserve its village character. Reinings Mühle adds to the local history: its origins date back to the early 18th century. These two places represent different aspects of the village—the landscaped church grounds and the long history of a mill.

Burrichter Hof is an impressive restored farmstead protected as a historic monument. A path leads through the farmstead and back to its starting point. The site thus combines a protected historic building with a trail route. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Dreierwalde, these themes can help you decide what you are interested in during your stay: the landscape, cycling routes, or the history of the town.

In Bevergern, within the destination of Hörstel, stands St. Marien Parish Church, a Late Gothic hall church with a polygonal choir dating from the 15th century and a richly decorated interior. The tower was raised in 1686 using ashlar from Bevergern Castle, which was blown up in 1680. Further additions were made in 1759, 1767 and 1937. Also in Bevergern is the Küsterei, a half-timbered gable house with a half-hipped roof dating from 1663 and one of Bevergern’s oldest houses. As a former farming burgher’s house, it has a large central hall behind the entrance gate.

Landscape and activities in Hörstel

The landscape of Hörstel is shaped by the transition from the Münsterland Park Landscape to the Teutoburg Forest. The 95-metre-high Huckberg is part of this landscape. The 57-hectare Torfmoor recreational area in Hörstel is home to the lake of the same name, Torfmoorsee. Visitors can sail, fish and surf there; conditions for these activities may vary. The lake also has a sandy beach and a sunbathing lawn for relaxing in the sun.

Another area of interest in the destination of Hörstel is equestrian sport: the Riesenbeck International equestrian centre offers training and competitions. The wider destination therefore offers not only cultural landscapes but also activities related to art, recreation and equestrian sport.
