Discover Niederbergheim
Accommodation in Niederbergheim
Niederbergheim is picturesquely situated in the Möhne Valley on the edge of Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. Hiking trails, a viewpoint and technical heritage offer different ways to enjoy your stay. If you’re looking for a hotel in Niederbergheim, you can choose based on your plans: Are you mainly interested in hiking, or are you also interested in the history of the village and its surroundings?
Hiking trails around Niederbergheim
There are two hiking trail car parks in the Niederbergheim area for Arnsberg Forest Nature Park: one on Schillingsweg at the western edge of the village, and one on Eisenberg on the L 856 between Niederbergheim and Hirschberg. From the hiking car park on Schillingsweg, you can walk the signposted circular trails A 9, which is 7.4 km long, and A 12, which is 3.2 km long. A 12 is therefore the shorter of the two routes mentioned; the distances give you a clear basis for comparing the planned length of your hike. The short Niederbergheim circular hike runs from Niederbergheim to Oberbergheim and adds another named route to the selection. As trail conditions may change, check them before setting out.
The Möhne Valley Skywalk
The Möhne Valley Skywalk is on Liethhöhe between Niederbergheim and Allagen and is part of the “3-Landschafts-Erlebniswelten” LEADER project. It can be reached on foot from the designated car parks in 15 to 20 minutes; the Skywalk itself is accessible to people with disabilities. These are two separate details to bear in mind when planning your visit: the walking time refers to the route from the car parks, while accessibility refers to the Skywalk. Check current parking options before your visit, as parking regulations may change.
Technical heritage and local history
The Niederbergheim Mill was built in 1551. The “Old Niederbergheim Saw Frame” is located right next to the Möhne Valley Cycle Route and is a technical heritage monument. It recalls the centuries-long importance of forestry and wood processing to the village. This brings together different aspects of local history: the mill’s year of construction, and the importance of forestry and wood processing, illustrated by the saw frame. If you don’t want to plan your stay around hiking routes alone, you’ll find another cultural focus here.
Möhni’s World in the Möhne Meadows
“Möhni’s World” is located in the Möhne Meadows between Warstein-Allagen and Niederbergheim. It is an off-campus learning centre and adds an educational dimension to the hiking and cultural themes. When planning your trip, you can choose whether to focus on trails and scenery, local technical history or a learning centre in the Möhne Meadows.
More trails in the wider Warstein travel destination
The wider Warstein travel destination has 540 kilometres of signposted hiking trails within the municipal area. This total may change if routes are revised. The 35-metre-high Lörmecke Tower offers panoramic views from the Hochsauerland region across the Haarstrang ridge and the Westphalian Bight to the Teutoburg Forest. Two hiking trails also differ in length: Route 1 is 16.5 kilometres long and leads through the Bilsteintal, Paradies and Hubertusquelle to Lörmecke Tower, then continues to Lörmecke Tower car park and Sedansteich. Route 2 runs from Lörmecke Tower car park via Kapellenplatz to the tower and is 6.3 kilometres long. The wider Warstein travel destination therefore offers different route lengths to help you plan.
