Discover Lippstadt
Accommodation in Lippstadt
Lippstadt offers a variety of options for a stay: historic buildings, performing arts, walking tours, nature along the Lippe and chocolate experiences. As you plan, you can decide whether to focus mainly on culture and local history, a self-guided route or outdoor activities.
Churches, local history and theatre
St. Mary's Church in Lippstadt's old town is a sight to see because of its size and diverse architectural styles. Its Gothic sacrament tower and Baroque altar represent different architectural forms. Construction of the church began shortly after Lippstadt was founded in 1185. Bernhard II personally consecrated it in 1222 in his capacity as Bishop of Selonia.
The collegiate church ruins also shape the historic cityscape. The listed building lies amid greenery and provides a setting for events or souvenir photos. During a visit to the city, you can therefore take in both the furnishings and architectural history of St. Mary's Church and the distinctive presence of a historic building in green surroundings.
Lippstadt's Stadttheater is the main venue for guest performances and touring productions. Its programme includes opera, drama, musical theatre and cabaret. The range therefore spans everything from musical theatre to spoken drama and cabaret; check in advance which performance suits your stay.
Chocolate and special experiences
PETERS SchokoWelt is dedicated to chocolate, pralines and other chocolate specialities. The visitor attraction covers 500 square metres across five floors, where the products are on display. The concept invites you to experience chocolate with all your senses. Praline-making courses for everyone are also offered in the praline kitchen and show bakery. If you would like to plan a course, check the current schedule before your trip.
The light installation in the water tower offers a different experience: visitors can see it as part of a free public guided tour, offered twice a month. Since the current schedule is important when planning your trip, check the tour dates before your visit.
Walking tours and cycling route
For exploring on foot, there are two marked circular routes of different lengths to choose from. The old town walk is 3.4 kilometres long and marked by 26 panels as a self-guided route. The water walk is about 4.4 kilometres long; 14 steles mark its route. This makes the water walk approximately one kilometre longer. The distance and number of markers offer a concrete comparison when choosing between the two walks. As signage may change, it's worth checking the latest route information before setting out.
By bike, the nearly 65-kilometre Lippstadt Treasure Route brings together nature, history, religious and magnificent buildings, and art in an experience-filled tour. It is therefore quite different from the shorter walks in its length and the range of themes it combines. Check the route conditions before setting off.
Lippe floodplains and Grüner Winkel
The Lippe floodplains are ideal for relaxing walks or picnics. In Grüner Winkel, the old stone weir offers an impressive view of the Lippe and is a popular photo spot. While the Lippe floodplains invite you to explore on foot or take a break outdoors, activities on the water are also part of the scene at Grüner Winkel: stand-up paddleboarding is one of the popular activities there. Check the current conditions on site.
