Accommodation in Overath
There are various options for a stay in Overath: the pilgrimage tradition in Marialinden, hiking trails of different lengths, the Agger, Gut Eichthal and the Badino. The trail lengths, starting points and conditions on the water provide practical guidance for your planning.
Church, Pilgrimage and Hiking
The Church of St. Mary’s Visitation in Marialinden remains a destination for many pilgrims. A festival octave in honor of the Mother of God is celebrated in Marialinden every year during the first week of July. If you are planning your trip around it, check the specific dates for that year.
The hiking trails offer a range of distances to compare: the Marialindener Kleeblatt is a network of four themed hiking trails that start at Marialinden Cathedral and range from 8 to 16 km in length. The Overath Pilgrimage Trail is about 9 km long, and the Mining Trail about 12 km. The Overath Panorama Trail is also about 16 km long and leads through the idyllic river landscape of the Agger; it starts at Overath Cultural Station. Its length is therefore roughly equal to the upper end of the Marialindener Kleeblatt. The Bergischer Weg is on a different scale: this long-distance hiking trail, awarded the “Quality Trail: Wanderbares Deutschland” seal, is about 259 km long, comprises 14 stages and passes directly through Overath on one stage.
Getting Your Bearings and Getting There
A new hiking information board has been located at the Cyriax school center car park in Overath since February 25, 2026, providing additional guidance for hikers. If the board is important for your plans, check before you travel whether it is still there. The Overath Pilgrimage Trail is easily accessible via the RB 25 at Overath station; check the timetable before setting off. The Panorama Trail starts at Overath Cultural Station.
The Agger, the Cycle Route and Gut Eichthal
The Agger is ideal for canoe tours and relaxed paddling trips; particularly experienced paddlers can explore Overath from the water. A minimum discharge of 5 m³/s at Vilkerath power station is required to navigate the river; the new gauge designation is No. 25a. As the Agger has some rough sections and hidden currents, commercial boat rentals and inexperienced paddlers may use it only with professional supervision. Check the current water-level requirements and rules before setting off.
In Overath and Rösrath, the Agger-Sülz Cycle Route runs for several kilometers on a dedicated cycle and pedestrian path alongside busy federal and state roads.
Gut Eichthal is located in Overath, on the Agger. It is a historic manor house open to the public, set in an English-style landscape park. A pedestrian bridge connects Gut Eichthal with the town of Overath and links the grounds to the hiking trail network. The large park is used by local residents as a place to relax.
Badino
The Badino in Overath has a 25-meter sports pool as well as a leisure pool with a water temperature of 32°C and massage jets. If these pool details are important for your visit, check the information again in advance.
