Burscheid offers an extensive range of hiking trails, protected landscapes and historic cultural sites. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can choose your focus based on your plans for the day: hiking, cycling or local history cater to different travel interests. For outdoor activities, specific information on route length, circular route format and designated route levels can help you compare options.
Hiking Trails in Burscheid
Burscheid has around 150 kilometres of hiking trails. One specific circular route is the 7.8-kilometre Landscheider Weg, which is rated easy. It passes through forests, follows streams and crosses fields; along the way, the route passes three historic mills. Its length and circular format give you a clear point of reference for this trail within the wider range of hiking options.
Three Nordic walking routes start at the Bellinghausen hiking car park and circle the Eifgenbach valley. They are designated for beginners, advanced walkers and experts. Alongside the Landscheider Weg, this gives you a choice of routes classified by experience level. Burscheid also has three hiking car parks: the largest is in Bellinghausen, with others near Hammerweg and StraĂźe im Hagen. Check the current parking situation before setting off, as parking regulations may change.
Nature Reserves and Landscape
The Eifgenbach and Side Valleys nature reserve covers 111.04 hectares in Burscheid. Its conservation objective is to protect a largely natural stream-and-valley system with side valleys, grassland and natural broadleaf woodland. The landscape here is shaped by the combination of streams, open areas and woodland.
The Herkensiefen nature reserve is a small side valley with beech-rich woodland. The two descriptions emphasize different features: the Eifgenbach and its side valleys are defined by the stream-and-valley system, grassland and broadleaf woodland, while Herkensiefen is characterized by its valley shape and beech-rich woodland.
Mills, Historic Monument and Culture
Lambertsmühle is a protected historic mill complex in Burscheid; the estate has been a listed monument since 1983. The complex includes a waterwheel, milling equipment, a stone oven, a working forge and workshops. It also includes a weaver’s room, a cellar, a kitchen garden and historic agricultural equipment. Lambertsmühle is a local history museum and is represented by the Verein zur Förderung der Lambertsmühle e. V. (Association for the Promotion of Lambertsmühle). Check the visitor regulations before your visit; special access rules may apply to individual exhibits.
The Eifgenburg ring wall is a registered archaeological monument. It probably dates from the 10th or 11th century. The rest of the cultural programme is also varied: Burscheid offers theatre, exhibitions, readings and musical performances. Dates for individual events vary. An events calendar and an overview of the year’s main events can help with planning; the calendar does not claim to be exhaustive. Check the specific dates for your trip.
