Drolshagen combines Romanesque architectural history with hiking and cycling opportunities in the Drolshagener Land. You can choose different focuses for your stay: the parish church and historic townscape, a culinary hike or tours through the forested low mountain landscape. The Drolshagener Land is part of the Sauerland Rothaargebirge Nature Park and is a quiet, forested low mountain landscape.

Church, Market Square and Regional History

The Catholic St. Clement’s Parish Church is a Romanesque basilica that has been preserved in virtually unchanged form. Directly opposite the market square is the former Hotel Schürholz, a magnificent half-timbered house protected as a historic monument. The two buildings give the townscape distinct historical accents.

The upper floor of the Drolshagen Heritage House contains books, documents and photographs on regional history. The history of the Old Monastery of Drolshagen also reaches far back: in 1235, the Cistercian nuns were given the land needed to establish it. During your stay, you can explore architectural history and regional heritage as separate themes.

Hiking Trails and Cycling Routes

The Drolshagener Land has around 140 kilometres of well-signposted hiking trails marked by the SGV. When planning a particular outing, the approximate length of the network offers a different point of reference from the length of an individual route. For example, the KuLTour at Lake Lister near Gut Kalberschnacke is a circular hiking trail of about seven kilometres.

There are also several options for cycling tours: four signposted circular cycling routes and the Agger-Bigge Loop run through the Drolshagener Land. Free maps are available at the Drolshagen citizens’ office; check route information before setting out. The Agger-Bigge Loop and the Bergisches Panorama Cycle Route pass through the Wegeringhausen Tunnel, which is protected as a historic monument.

The Old HĂĽtzemert Railway Station, a protected historic monument, is located on the Bergisches Panorama Cycle Route and the Agger-Bigge Loop. The former station building was converted over thirteen months into a village community centre with a staffed rest stop for local residents and travellers on foot or by bicycle. The station serves as a refreshment stop; check its opening hours in advance.

Art by Lake Lister and Culinary Breaks

More than 25 works of art have been created in the landscape along the approximately seven-kilometre KuLTour at Lake Lister near Gut Kalberschnacke. The route combines a circular walk with art in the open air. Individual works may change because natural materials are exposed to the weather.

The Dräulzer Jausenpfad is a culinary hike through the Drolshagener Land. Breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks and a final dinner are part of its itinerary. The food stops give the hike a culinary arc throughout the day; participating businesses and arrangements may change, so check them before planning your trip.

The routes mentioned offer different scales, from a circular trail of about seven kilometres to an extensive hiking network.
