If you are looking for a hotel in Dahmen, you can plan your stay around your interests: swimming in the lake, observing nature or cycling each offer a different focus. Local attractions provide some specific ideas.

Bathing area on Lake Malchin

Dahmen’s bathing area is on the southern shore of Lake Malchin. It is unsupervised and has a jetty and a partly shaded sunbathing lawn. The shoreline is sandy and slopes gently. The campsite at the bathing area covers 1.4 hectares, is surrounded by large trees and offers 80 pitches. Boat rentals are also available at the bathing area; check availability before your visit. Facilities, capacity and boat rentals may change; check the latest information before travelling if needed.

The bathing area and the observation tower offer different experiences: at the shore, the jetty and sunbathing lawn take centre stage; from the tower, you can look out over the protected area and the lake. When planning your day, you can choose between spending time by the water and observing nature as your main focus.

Observation tower and nature watching

The observation tower is in the Dahmer Wiesen meadows on Lake Malchin. From Dahmen, access is via the meadows behind the sports ground. A standard passenger car can reach the tower’s elevation; otherwise, allow for a walk of about 500 metres. The wooden tower has wooden benches and a table for a snack and is designed for four to eight people. From here, you can look out over the Dahmer Moorwiesen nature reserve and Lake Malchin. The tower is considered an ideal place for photography and wildlife watching. Cranes, ospreys and white-tailed eagles can be seen here; sightings depend on the season and are not guaranteed. Goosanders also occur here as breeding waterbirds.

Dahmen lies on the shore of Lake Dahmen and is surrounded by dense forests. Hiking also offers an opportunity to explore the surrounding landscape. The forest and hiking trails therefore add another focus to the activities available at Lake Malchin.

Cycling routes and sights

For cycling, you can distinguish between a named tour and a section of route with a specified length. Route A of Tour 09, “Castles and Churches Tour in Mecklenburg Switzerland,” passes through Dahmen. A paved, well-signposted cycle path follows the lake and the Mühlenbach stream for three kilometres from Dahmen towards Ziddorf. Route A focuses on Dahmen as part of the route; the cycle path towards Ziddorf is described by its length, surface and signage. Check current path conditions before setting off.

The German Avenue Road also passes through Dahmen. Another local attraction is Dahmen’s early Gothic brick church. The description combines two architectural details: “early Gothic” refers to the period, while “brick” refers to the building material.
