Stadland is located between the Lower Weser and Jade Bay. Its network of cycling routes, the banks of the Weser and cultural attractions offer different starting points for planning your trip. If you are looking for a hotel, you can consider whether cycling tours, time by the water or culture will be the focus of your stay.

Cycling through the flat landscape

Around 220 kilometres of well-signposted cycling routes are available in Stadland. The extensive network also includes the German Siel Route, the Weser Cycle Route and the North Sea Coast Cycle Route. Stadland’s flat landscape offers sweeping views across pastures and meadows, ditches, thatched farmhouses and dikes. The open countryside and the visible lines of ditches and dikes shape the scenery, while the thatched farmsteads add their own architectural touch. Both specific routes and the landscape itself can therefore help you decide what to focus on during your trip.

The Weser riverbank and protected nature

Kleinensiel Weser Beach is a free riverside beach with a spacious sunbathing lawn. Here you can cool off or take a walk along the Weser. The beach is unsupervised, and the Weser is affected by the tides. Check local conditions before swimming.

Access to the protected Weser island of Strohauser Plate is subject to different conditions: the protected area can only be visited as part of a guided excursion. Before travelling, check excursion dates and access requirements.

Church, village character and culture

Visitors can explore the interior of St. Matthew’s Church independently; information leaflets are available near the entrance. The interior was largely created by Ludwig Münstermann. Dated furnishings include an altar from 1629 and a pulpit from 1631. These dates make the two works useful reference points when exploring the design of the church interior.

Rodenkirchen is a historic village with an old market square, a railway station and listed buildings. These features give the village character its different accents: the public square, the station and the preserved buildings. The Seefeld Mill also adds to the cultural offerings. Its programme includes changing exhibitions, concerts, cinema, theatre, readings, lectures, markets and workshops. As individual dates may change, check the current event schedule before visiting.

Regional cuisine and recurring events

The shop at Seefeld Mill offers regional food and handicrafts. The café serves homemade cake; light lunches made with fresh regional produce are available seasonally in summer. Stadland’s regional cuisine also includes North Sea fish and beef and lamb from local meadows.

Roonkarker Mart is considered the largest and oldest folk festival in the Wesermarsch. Traditionally, it includes a procession through Rodenkirchen on Saturday. Dates and programmes may change, so check the latest event information before your visit. Another way to experience the Weser is a trip on the historic Hanni, a traditional sailing vessel, in connection with the butter traders. Check the ship’s sailing dates in advance.
