Mulmshorn: Nature, circular trail and village history
Accommodation in Mulmshorn
Mulmshorn is best explored via the ORTSWEG Rund um Mulmshorn. The route is rated easy and is eight kilometres long; the estimated walking time is around two hours and 45 minutes. The distance, difficulty rating and time provide different indications of the planned walk. If you are looking for a hotel in Mulmshorn, these details can help you decide whether a walk lasting several hours fits your travel plans. Wetland landscapes, herb-related activities and local historical sites shape the themes of a stay.
Wetland landscapes along the way
The route passes through the Glindbusch and Wiestetal nature reserves. The landscape includes wet meadows, old black alder carr forests, the Glindbach stream and expansive fields. Glindbusch is considered a wet woodland area of around 235 hectares. It includes historic oak woodland, alder-ash floodplain forest, wet meadows, natural streams and marshy sections. In the Wiestetal, the stream provides a habitat for species including otters and black storks. The route therefore takes in open fields alongside wet woodland and streams; the different habitats give the walk a clear focus on nature.
Herb activities and baking days
The circular trail starts at the Kräuterhotel Heidejäger. The hotel has an herb garden and offers herb tours by prior reservation. If you would like to include a tour, be sure to book in advance. Another connection to herbs in Mulmshorn is the herb wall in the courtyard of the community centre. There is also a wood-fired oven there, which is used on baking days. The herb garden and tour offer a different theme for a visit than forests and meadows; use of the wood-fired oven is explicitly limited to baking days.
Local history and motorsport
Historical sites along the route include the rebuilt Old Peat Works. An information board describes its past. Other stops include the old village centre, with farmhouses and horse paddocks, and a historic earthen rampart near the cemetery. As well as taking in the area’s landscapes, the route therefore offers insights into Mulmshorn’s architectural and historical traces.
Motorsport is also part of the local attractions: the route passes the Wümmering, the sand track of MSC Mulmshorn. Speedway, sidecar and cross-car races are held there. If a race is important to your travel plans, check the event dates in advance.
Getting there by car and bus
There is free parking for the circular trail at the Kräuterhotel Heidejäger. The trail is a few minutes from the A1 via the Bockel exit. The Mulmshorn Ort bus stop is 250 metres from the circular trail. Bus route 800 runs there from Rotenburg (Wümme) station to Zeven bus station, Monday to Saturday. If you are travelling by bus, check the latest timetables and route information before setting off, as operating days and routes may change.
