Landscape and trails

At the end of Schulstraße stands Klein Meckelsen’s ancient beech tree. It is a natural monument protected by law. The Kuhbach winds its way through fields and meadows in Klein Meckelsen. The beech tree and the stream showcase nature in different ways: the natural monument is a distinctive landmark, while the stream flows through the fields and meadows.

The Kuhbach is listed in the photo tour section of the walking tour through Klein Meckelsen. The Kuhbach Valley in Klein Meckelsen is part of the popular NORDPFAD Kuhbach-Oste hiking trail. However, the NORDPFAD starts in Groß Meckelsen, at Hotel Restaurant Schröder, Am Kuhbach 1. For orientation, the valley and the starting address are two separate points: the Kuhbach Valley is in Klein Meckelsen, while the starting point at the hotel is in Groß Meckelsen. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Heritage and traditional costume culture

The war memorial in Klein Meckelsen is a monument and memorial commemorating fallen soldiers. The Klein Meckelsen traditional costume group has a different cultural role: it preserves the traditional costumes, dances and accompanying songs of the Börde Sittensen for future generations. Together, these represent two different forms of remembrance: commemorating the fallen and passing on regional forms of expression.

The international traditional costume festivals in Klein Meckelsen began in 1982; five years elapsed between each festival. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival, check current event dates in advance.
