Uplengen offers a range of attractions for a stay: well-marked trails in the Holle Sand Nature Reserve, a moorland discovery trail, Remels Mill and a leisure complex at the swimming lake in Großsander. If you are looking for a hotel, these attractions can help determine which places you make the focus of your plans. Each place has its own landscape and activities.

Nature Trails and Moorland

The Holle Sand Nature Reserve has well-marked walking trails, signposted using the junction system. The area is also a habitat for numerous animal and plant species. Both the wayfinding along the trails and the natural environment are among Holle Sand’s defining features.

The “Stapeler Moor” moorland discovery trail is a 1.6-kilometre circular route with an observation tower and a reconstruction of an ancient plank path, like the one that ran through the moor thousands of years ago. The two nature attractions differ in how they are described: Holle Sand is known for its marked trails through a habitat rich in species, while the moorland trail includes a set route length and a reconstruction of the historic plank path as part of the experience.

Remels Mill and the Swimming Lake in Großsander

Remels Mill is a gallery-style Dutch windmill dating from 1803. The municipality of Uplengen acquired it in 1963 and uses it as a registry office and to exhibit historic agricultural equipment. Advance registration is required if you would like to visit the mill or take a guided tour. Arrange the details with the local tourist information office.

The leisure complex at the swimming lake in Großsander has a snack bar with a kiosk. If you are making specific plans for food and drink, it is worth checking that the facilities are currently available before your visit.
