Frielendorf offers a variety of things to enjoy during your stay: Silbersee and its mining history, leisure activities involving water and exercise, and local culture and history. If you are looking for hotels in Frielendorf, you can start by considering which of these aspects is most important for your trip. Options range from cycling and leisure activities to historic sites and a traditional market.

Silbersee: Landscape and Mining History

Silbersee covers an area of 8.2 ha and is 14 m deep at its deepest point. It was created by open-cast lignite mining in the 1980s and subsequently flooded with groundwater. Its present form thus reflects the transformation from a former open-cast mine into a flooded body of water. The lake illustrates the connection between the landscape and the history of mining.

Leisure Activities on the Water and on Land

Leisure activities in Frielendorf include hiking, cycling, swimming and wellness. Cycling routes pass through meadow valleys and along rivers; more challenging routes lead into the foothills and heights of the Knüll hills. This lets you choose between tours through river valleys and meadows and more demanding routes over higher ground.

The water facilities can also be compared by their size. Frielendorf outdoor pool has just under 1,000 m² of water surface. At WellnessParadies am Silbersee, the water surface is 151 m²; it also has a 53 m-long water slide. The outdoor pool therefore has the larger water surface, while the slide is an additional specific feature of WellnessParadies.

The small Silbersee-Bob amusement park is located right on the shore of Silbersee. Its attractions include a bobsled track, boat rental, playground, petting animals, quad track, Nautic-Jet and a play beach. When planning your visit, please bear in mind that individual attractions may vary.

Frielo-Land offers a different kind of leisure experience: under one roof, 2,200 m² of space is filled with numerous attractions for children and families. These include a bungee and trampoline facility, bumper boats, billiard tables, a ball-shooting game, climbing frames, slides and a separate area for younger visitors. As details may change, it is advisable to check the current offering before your visit.

Local History and Tradition

Frielendorf Museum Shop offers a glimpse of rural life: furnished with historic furniture from old shops in Frielendorf, it recreates a village shop from the early 20th century. Visits are possible by appointment; arrange your visit in advance.

The mining educational trail is located in the Erlebniswelt am Silbersee in Frielendorf. This presents different perspectives on the past side by side: a recreation of a village shop and an exploration of mining. Frielendorf has also been officially recognised as a climatic health resort since 2000.

The Himmelfahrtsmarkt also brings together historic origins and present-day leisure. Its unbroken tradition dates back to the granting of privileges by Landgrave Karl in 1694. Today, the market is primarily a major leisure event and attracts thousands of visitors to Frielendorf every year.
