Hüttenthal offers specific starting points for cycling and hiking tours, as well as individual sights and destinations for excursions. If you’re looking for a hotel, it helps to first decide what you’d like to focus on during your trip: cycling, hiking, or visiting individual attractions?

Cycling and the Nibelungensteig

The Siegfried Cycle Route reaches Hüttenthal through the Marbach Valley. It then runs via Hilterklingen and its only uphill section to Grasellenbach. If you’re planning a specific cycling tour, check the current route conditions; these may change independently of the route itself.

Hüttenthal is also a starting point for the Nibelungensteig, which passes the Marbach Reservoir. This gives you different route options to consider when planning: the Siegfried Cycle Route connects Hüttenthal with the described sequence via Hilterklingen to Grasellenbach, while the Nibelungensteig runs past the reservoir. If you’re planning a specific hike, it’s worth checking the latest route details.

Hiking trails and destinations nearby

The “Triumphalis” circular hiking trail starts at the Mossautalhalle in Hüttenthal. It curves around the Güttersbach district of Hüttenthal. Within the wider Mossautal area, it leads to the Rotes Wasser nature reserve, considered the only moor in the Odenwald. The starting point, route, and destination each offer different reference points for planning your tour.

The “Fafnir” circular trail leads from the area near Hüttenthal to the Lindelbrunnen spring. The spring is claimed to be the source of the Siegfried legend and is associated with the Nibelungen saga. It was first mentioned in 773 in a boundary description of the Mark Heppenheim; in 1884, the Odenwald Club renovated the Lindelbrunnen. This destination thus brings together a cautious association with the legend and two specific historical references.

Sightseeing and local highlights

At the Hüttenthal ice cream factory, you may be lucky enough to watch the ice cream being made through a window. This is therefore a possibility, not a guarantee for every visit. Visitors can also tour the Hüttenthal private dairy in the municipality of Mossautal.

Odenwald breakfast cheese is also part of Mossautal’s regional offerings: since 1997, it has carried the “protected designation of origin” seal.
