Wolfshausen combines a historic town center with several cultural monuments and a range of leisure facilities. Alongside the buildings in the town, these include a training ground and a multigenerational space offering sports and community activities.

Historic town center and farmsteads

The historic town center extends along Hauptstraße and Am Talacker. As a historic ensemble, it is listed in the State of Hesse’s register of monuments for historical reasons. The farmsteads are mostly arranged around three sides of a courtyard, often directly adjoining one another, and generally still feature natural stone paving. In a three-sided courtyard complex, buildings enclose the courtyard on three sides; this helps place the recurring courtyard layout in context alongside the individual houses.

One notable example is the farmstead at HauptstraĂźe 13. It is listed as a cultural monument and shapes the townscape. It comprises a half-timbered residential house with a sandstone wall closing off the street side, a gatehouse built using the post-and-plank construction method in the 18th century, a barn built around the middle of the 18th century, and a courtyard paved with basalt. These construction features apply to specific parts of the property: half-timbering describes the residential house, and post-and-plank construction the gatehouse.

Town hall and church

The former town hall is at Am Talacker 3 and is listed in the State of Hesse’s register of monuments as a cultural monument for historical and urban-planning reasons. The half-timbered building has a neoclassical character and is now used as a community center. Its former function as a town hall and its current use therefore belong to different periods in the building’s history.

The Wolfshausen church is a small, single-nave Gothic building. Its east side features a large chancel window; an aumbry with Gothic detailing is another architectural feature. Remains of an older building have been preserved at the church, dating to the 11th century. This date refers to the surviving older parts of the building, not to the church as a whole.

Training ground and multigenerational space

The MSV Lahnberge training ground is located in Weimar-Wolfshausen on the B 3a, Roth exit. It includes a varied race track as well as a motocross track for children. If you are planning a visit, check the facility’s operating status in advance.

The multigenerational space includes a permanent shelter with fresh water, electricity, and toilets, as well as a spacious open area with a boules court and sports courts for young people. The open area can be used year-round. The project to create the multigenerational space was carried out from 2016 to 2018. If you plan to use the facilities, check their availability in advance.

Historic routes

The town’s former transport history also helps put it in context. Before 1715, the old Frankfurt–Bremen or Kassel highway route ran via the fords at Wolfshausen and Argenstein. A riverside path also led to Ronhausen. The highway route and riverside path are historic connections; do not rely on this information as current directions when planning your journey.
