Fellerdilln combines a continuing Hauberg tradition with the history of local iron ore mining. While the Hauberg continues to shape the village’s annual cycle, an ironworks operated between 1609 and 1613.

Hauberg Tradition and Iron Ore History

The Hauberg forestry system is not just a thing of the past in Fellerdilln: it continues to shape the village’s annual cycle. Today, the wood is used mainly as firewood. Those interested in rural economic practices will find a tangible connection to village life today: the tradition continues, and the wood is used primarily for the practical purpose of fuel.

An ironworks operated between 1609 and 1613; the local tradition of iron ore mining has also been known for a long time. Ironworking and ore mining are thus two related but distinct points of reference in Fellerdilln’s history.

Museum and Balkan Tunnel in the wider Haiger destination

The Lace and Linen Museum in Haigerseelbach illustrates the process from the flax plant to finished linen fabric; its exhibits include a working loom. The museum also displays an extensive collection of antique lace and presents techniques such as bobbin lace-making, crochet and the region’s traditional tatting technique. This connects the history of textile crafts with specific methods and materials.

The Balkan Tunnel in the wider Haiger destination is a 1,114-metre-long cycle tunnel between Langenaubach and Breitscheid. For nature conservation reasons, it is open only from 15 April to October; this arrangement may be adjusted by the operator or the responsible authority.
