Accommodation in Machtlos
Machtlos on the Southern Slope
Machtlos lies on the southern slope of the Richelsdorf Mountains and has been a state-recognized resort since 1983. The surrounding landscape is characterized by forests, meadows, pastures and fields; the village has half-timbered houses and a small village church. The village district also includes a holiday park with 170 holiday homes and many recreational facilities. The landscape and named trails provide a useful framework when searching for a hotel in Machtlos. You can plan your trip around whether hiking, nature-related topics or a particular adventure trail should be the main focus.
Hiking: Compare Routes and Experiences
The R 21 hiking trail starts in the center of Machtlos and is 6.0 km long. The Steinbachtal Adventure Trail offers 3.5 km of wobbly bridges, a climbing buck, a climbing tower and climbing ladder, a tire swing tower, seesaws, round-log paths, a rocky section in the Steinbach stream, and many rest areas. The adventure trail runs from Ronshäuser See to the resort of Machtlos. The different focuses can help you choose between the two trails: the R 21 has a named starting point and length, while the Steinbachtal trail focuses on its many adventure features and rest areas. This lets you decide which route description better suits your plans.
Forest Knowledge and Themed Trails
The forest information trail in the resort of Machtlos has 25 signs about the tree and shrub species found there. There is also a large information wall with illustrated panels about native animals and birds. Its topics therefore range from plant life to wildlife. The Fairy-Tale Adventure Trail has a different focus: it starts at the hiking car park of Ronshausen Holiday Park in the resort of Machtlos, Bellersberg 11, and is combined with a geocaching route. If you are more interested in fairy tales and geocaching than in information about trees, shrubs and animals, you can choose between the trails according to these interests. Individual features on the adventure trail may be changed or maintained, so check the latest information before setting out on a specific hike.
Cycling Routes and the Hiking Badge
You can also plan a cycling route that includes Machtlos: a cycle path runs through the Machtlos Valley and provides a detour into the resort. Check the route locally before setting off. Hikers also have a connection to Ronshausen: eight circular hiking trails in Ronshausen and the resort of Machtlos are included in a hiking pass for earning the Ronshausen Hiking Badge. If the badge matters to you, look for this pass connection when choosing a route; local rules and materials may change.
Ronshausen: More Trails and Reasons to Visit
Ronshausen offers twelve circular hiking and walking routes and 17 circular cycling tours. The hiking pass, by contrast, covers eight circular hiking trails in Ronshausen and Machtlos. The information therefore refers to different things: trails in Ronshausen in one case, and trails in both villages connected with the hiking badge in the other. In Ronshausen, the forest nature trail also passes 40 signs with information about the local forest. For comparison, Machtlos’s forest information trail covers tree and shrub species on 25 signs and is supplemented by an information wall about native animals and birds.
Ronshäuser See is on the eastern edge of Ronshausen, in the direction of Machtlos. Children are invited to take part in a detective game at the lake. Opposite are the fish-breeding ponds of the Ronshausen sport fishing club, including Paul-Rexroth-See. Information boards there provide information about fishing, among other things, and benches invite visitors to relax. These attractions offer a separate glimpse of Ronshausen and complement the hiking and nature topics described for planning a trip around Machtlos.
Ronshausen’s Landmarkt and Nativity Scene Trail are also reasons to visit. The Landmarkt takes place five times a year and offers regional specialties and traditional crafts; check the dates before your visit. The Ronshausen Nativity Scene Trail features more than 180 nativity scenes from various countries and is part of an annual tradition. Here too, it is worth checking the latest dates before planning your stay around the event.
