At the Baruth Glassworks, the history of glassmaking is brought to life through ongoing production: the living glass museum has a working furnace, and traditional workshops produce one-of-a-kind pieces and small batches. The settlement is a monument of European significance. Other places in Teltow-Fläming also have their own special focus—from monastery history and photography to regional archaeology and technology.

Glass, Monastery and Crafts

At Kloster Zinna, the monastery museum combines the history of the former Cistercian monastery with a distillery museum. Demonstrations of how the essences for the herbal liqueur “Klosterbruder” are made are part of the visitor experience. The Weaving Museum offers another perspective on traditional crafts: it displays historic handlooms and textile art, complemented by practical demonstrations.

The Museum in the Monastery in Jüterbog covers three floors: regional archaeology, the history of the Reformation and the town’s military history. Jüterbog’s old town, one of the district’s visitor attractions, is also part of this historical focus. The Großbeeren Memorial Tower looks back at the liberation movement around 1813 and includes, among other exhibits, a diorama of the Battle of Großbeeren.

Museums Between Town History and Everyday Life

Those interested in technology and photography will find other special subjects here: MUST—the Museum of the Town and Technology in Ludwigsfelde—covers the town’s history, vehicle manufacturing and engines. The Oskar Barnack Museum in Lynow is dedicated to the inventor of the Leica 35 mm camera and its 24 x 36 mm film. It also offers insights into the history of photography.

Everyday and regional history is at the heart of several museums. The Blankensee Farm Museum depicts village life in a Mark Brandenburg-style central-hall house dating from 1649. The Jänickendorf Museum Barn presents rural life over the past 200 years through historic household items and agricultural equipment. The Dahme/Mark Local History Museum focuses on the crafts and folklore of the Lower Fläming; its collection includes clamping irons and Fläming traditional costumes. In Wünsdorf-Waldstadt, NEUE GALERIE presents changing exhibitions of contemporary art in various genres. The Theodor Fontane Cabinet has a permanent exhibition on Fontane’s “Walks through the March of Brandenburg.”

The Fläming Cultural Days in Jüterbog and the Kloster Zinna summer music concerts are also cultural offerings in the region. As dates may vary, check the event schedule for your travel period.

Cycle Routes and Landscape

Cyclists can explore almost 600 kilometres of tourist cycling routes in the district. The Jüterbog Skate Arena is located right on the Fläming-Skate route and attracts elite athletes from across Europe. The district maintains the Fläming-Skate route and has it cleaned regularly; nevertheless, check route conditions before setting out. The FlämingWalk can be reached by train via the Woltersdorf and Luckenwalde stops. Check connections before travelling.

The landscape features gently rolling ridges, broad valleys, protected areas, uplands and lowlands. Visitors can experience the local flora and fauna up close. The district accounts for 30,414 hectares of the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park. The Boden-Geo-Pfad trail in the Sperenberg gypsum quarries and Klausdorf clay pits explores a special subject: over twelve kilometres, it provides information about the soil and the formation and use of the Sperenberg gypsum quarries. The trail opened in June 2008. As maintenance work is not yet complete, it is currently only accessible to a limited extent; take this into account when planning your trip.
