Dahme/Mark combines a well-preserved historic town center with a distinctive city wall, a Baroque-style castle, and several walking tours and circular routes. This gives you a choice of different priorities when planning your trip: historic buildings or exercise on a named route. One walking tour leads through the town center to points of interest and along the wall; the RK7 is part of the Flaeming-Skate. The town hall and town church add architectural and cultural perspectives on the town.

Old Town and City Wall

The historic town center of Dahme/Mark is well preserved and has many buildings that shape the townscape. The city wall is a defining feature of the townscape. Construction began in the 13th century; it was built mainly from bog ironstone. The wall is also known as the “Iron City Wall.” Its construction period, the material used predominantly, and its name each provide a distinct historical point of reference.

There are various walking tours for exploring the old town. A tour through the historic town center takes you to points of interest and along the city wall. The accessible town-center circular route runs around the wall and allows people with disabilities to enjoy the old town without restrictions. This makes it easy to decide whether you would rather focus your stay on the points of interest in the town center or on the accessible circular route.

Castle, Town Hall, and Town Church

On the edge of Dahme/Mark stands an 18th-century Baroque-style castle. Today it is preserved as a secured ruin, with a castle park as part of the grounds. Its location on the outskirts adds another place with its own character and architectural history to the historic buildings in the town center.

The centrally located town hall is a defining feature of the townscape, built in the 19th-century Neo-Renaissance style. Together with the castle, it represents a different architectural accent: the castle reflects the Baroque of the 18th century, while the town hall represents the Neo-Renaissance of the 19th century. If you are interested in architectural history, these two distinct styles and periods can both inform your exploration of the town.

St. Mary's Town Church is also a venue for cultural events. These include choral and organ concerts, orchestral performances, and exhibitions. Music and visual art are therefore among Dahme/Mark's cultural offerings, alongside its historic buildings. If you are planning to visit for a particular event, check the dates in advance.

Circular Routes and Trip Planning

Since April 22, 2012, Dahme has had its own Flaeming-Skate circular route, the RK7. This adds another way to spend your time to the walking tours through the old town. If you plan to use the RK7, check before setting out whether any temporary works affect the route.

The RK7 and the town-center circular route offer different experiences: one is Dahme's own Flaeming-Skate circular route, while the other runs around the city wall and allows people with disabilities to enjoy the old town without restrictions. When planning your trip, it is therefore helpful to first decide whether to focus on the old town or the Flaeming-Skate route. The historic buildings, cultural events, and various walking tours offer concrete ways to explore either option.
