One is an archaeologically significant burial site, while the other is a park landscape with views, old trees and a pond. These differences can help you choose a destination that suits your interests.

The Seddin Royal Tomb

With its valuable treasures, the Seddin Royal Tomb is considered the most important burial site in Northern Europe from the 9th century BC. The burial site covers around 3,000 m²; a circular walking trail around the royal tomb is accessible year-round. The area and the trail answer different questions: the area gives an idea of the site’s approximate size, while the trail offers a way to walk around it.

Groß Pankow Manor Park

The eastern extension of Groß Pankow Manor Park offers views across the landscape. It is home to old trees, including a Douglas fir and a larch, as well as a pond with a wooden bridge. A lime-tree avenue leads to the family cemetery. Unlike the archaeological burial site, the focus here is on the landscape views, trees and water.

Visiting arrangements also differ when planning your trip: the walking trail around the royal tomb is accessible year-round; check local trail conditions before setting out. Guided visits to the manor park are available by arrangement. This allows you to plan a walk and a guided visit separately.

Prignitz as a broader travel destination

The wider Prignitz destination brings in broader themes such as nature, cycling and culture. The Brandenburg section of the cross-state “Elbe River Landscape – Brandenburg” Biosphere Reserve covers about 53,000 hectares and lies almost entirely within Prignitz district. This figure gives a sense of the scale of this regional natural area.

Prignitz has 1,100 kilometres of designated cycle routes. There are also 17 recommended cycling tours focusing on regional sights and distinctive features. Unlike the trail around the royal tomb, these offer a regional selection. Route network information may be updated; check the latest details when planning a specific route.

On the Elbe in Prignitz, tours for experienced paddlers offer opportunities to observe wildlife in the biosphere reserve. This activity is specifically intended for experienced paddlers.

Prignitz offers several different options for culture enthusiasts, too. The permanent exhibition at the Pritzwalk Museum Factory explores the history of industrialisation in rural areas; visitors can get hands-on in the printing museum and hand-weaving workshop. Wittenberge’s Stone Gate dates back to the 13th century and houses an exhibition about its former use as a prison, the Roaring Twenties and the Elbe in Wittenberge. In Prignitz, the Blüthen Rectory Museum also evokes life in an Evangelical rectory of the past through the parish archive, with holdings dating back to the 17th century, and the estate of Karl and Gerlinde Groß.
