For a stay in Wusterwitz, two themes go hand in hand: Lake Wusterwitz, with its swimming and walking opportunities, and the town’s history and culture.

Lake Wusterwitz and the Lido

Lake Wusterwitz has bathing spots with sunbathing areas and a promenade for walks. The lido is accessible by car and bicycle; parking spaces and bicycle racks are available. A snack bar at the lido serves savoury and sweet snacks. You can plan your time there around swimming, taking a break on the sunbathing area or going for a walk. If you plan to visit the snack bar, check its current opening hours in advance.

Local History and Culture

Wusterwitz was first mentioned in documents in the 12th century; the brick church dates from the 13th century and adds a tangible landmark to this historical setting. On the upper floor of the restored former sexton’s house, the Wusterwitz Local History and Culture Association (Heimat- und Kulturverein Wusterwitz e.V.) presents a permanent exhibition covering 130 m². The exhibition “Wusterwitz History in the Former Sexton’s House” commemorates Wusterwitz puppeteer Wilhelm Götze and artistic cyclist Paul Z`dun.

Sports and choir events have a regular place in community life throughout the year; the Strandfest and the Gewerbevereinsfest are also held annually. The former brickworks, “Alte Ziegelei Wusterwitz,” serves as a venue for concerts, markets and arts and crafts. If you are planning your trip around a specific event date, check the date in advance.

Potsdam-Mittelmark: More Cultural and Scenic Destinations

The wider destination of Potsdam-Mittelmark offers additional cultural and scenic attractions beyond the focus on Wusterwitz. Eisenhardt Castle, above Bad Belzig, gives visitors an opportunity to experience the Middle Ages at first hand. In the Middle Ages, Ziesar Castle was an important episcopal residence and is impressive for its well-preserved architecture. Wiesenburg Palace is a masterpiece of the Renaissance, surrounded by a landscaped park. Reckahn Palace is dedicated to the life and work of Prussian reformer Friedrich Eberhard von Rochow; the permanent exhibition “Reason for the People” has been on display there since 2001.

Nature and routes also shape Potsdam-Mittelmark. The nearly one-kilometre-long elevated walkway on the treetop path in the forest park of the Beelitz sanatorium complex passes through species-rich mixed woodland and the historic buildings of the former A Quadrant. The 148-kilometre-long Castle Trail runs through the entire Hoher Fläming Nature Park and connects four castles. The EuroVelo 1 route passes through the region’s picturesque landscapes and historic towns.

The Beelitz Asparagus Road connects the asparagus farms in the districts of the town of Beelitz and can be followed by car, bicycle or on foot. As route signs may change, check them before setting out. The Wusterwitz municipal association, on Lake Wusterwitz, also offers opportunities for water sports, cycling and hiking.
