Vielitzsee is located in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district of Brandenburg. The lake of the same name, cycling, fishing and a visit to Alpaca nigra offer a range of reasons to plan a stay. If you are looking for a hotel, you can base your choice on the activities: a ride around the lake, a seasonal visit to the village church or a farm visit booked in advance.

By the Lake and on a Bike

Seebeck and Vielitz lie on the shore of the 120-hectare Vielitzsee. An 11-kilometer cycling tour runs around the lake, offering a straightforward way to include some exercise in your stay. You can factor the route’s length into your plans; surface and signage conditions may change, so check for current information before setting off.

For further tours in the wider destination of Ostprignitz-Ruppin, “Radeln nach Zahlen” (“Cycling by Numbers”) serves as a junction-based system for planning routes. The Fontane Cycle Path leads to places and landscapes described by Theodor Fontane in his work “Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg” (“Walks through the Mark of Brandenburg”). Unlike the lake circuit, whose distance is specified as 11 kilometers, this cycle path is primarily associated with its literary connection.

Fishing, the Village Church and Alpaca nigra

Vielitzsee and the Vielitz Canal are fishing destinations. If you would like to fish, check the applicable regulations in advance, as they may change.

As of January 1, 2026, the village church in Vielitz is listed as a historic monument in Brandenburg’s register of monuments. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays from Easter to the Harvest Festival, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; access at other times is available by arrangement. As seasonal opening hours may change, check the information before your visit.

A Regional Perspective on Ostprignitz-Ruppin

The Kyritz-Ruppiner Heide covers 12,000 hectares in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district and has been part of Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park since 2021. It is one of Europe’s largest contiguous Calluna heathland areas and provides a habitat for numerous protected and endangered animal species, including more than 70 bird species; wolves have also lived there since 2008. The nature park is partly within the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district and invites visitors to hike and cycle. These regional nature and cycling themes complement the closer look at the lake and activities in Vielitzsee.
