Rheinsberg combines palace history and vibrant culture with trails through an area rich in forests and lakes. The palace ensemble, several museums and a variety of walking tours shape your stay, as do cycling and hiking trails. This makes it possible to get to know the town from different perspectives: through its art and literature, its history of ceramics or the surrounding landscape.

Palace, Art and Opera

Rheinsberg Palace on Lake Grienerick brings nature, architecture and art together in a harmonious ensemble. Works of art in the rooms invite you on a journey back to the 18th century. Restored room decorations from the Frederician period around 1740 and early Neoclassical interiors dating to around 1786, together with paintings and decorative arts, convey an impression of the domestic culture, lifestyle and collecting activities of former owners.

The Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg adds another cultural dimension to the palace atmosphere: in spring and summer, it presents an international festival of young opera singers. The programme includes music theatre and concerts, featuring young artists from around the world. Opera productions are staged outdoors in the Hedge Theatre and on the stage at the Kavalierhaus; concerts take place in the Mirror Hall and the Palace Theatre. The programme changes from year to year, so the schedule for the relevant season is the authoritative source for specific cultural dates.

Museums with a Range of Specialities

The Kurt Tucholsky Museum keeps the poet’s legacy alive with exhibitions, guided tours and readings, and oversees other literary projects, including the Rheinsberg town writer project. The Kurt Tucholsky Literature Museum is also listed in the German Federal Government’s Blue Book as a cultural memorial site of national significance. Rheinsberg is therefore home both to literary outreach and to a cultural memorial site of significance beyond the region.

The Rheinsberg Ceramics Museum focuses on the more than 260-year history of ceramics in Rheinsberg. Topics on display include precious objects from the late 18th century, early successes in the delicate manufacture of stoneware from the first half of the 19th century, and the Rheinsberg teapot. While the palace and literature museum offer insights into art, domestic culture and literary life, the focus here is on a local craft and its products.

Walking Tours and Trails in Rheinsberg

The self-guided town walk passes historic half-timbered houses, the Old School and St. Laurence’s Church, dating from the 13th century. Guided tours are also available for this route. There is also a mobile town walk, designed for smartphones, that follows a route past historic sites. The two offerings have different focuses: the self-guided walk links several named architectural and historical landmarks, while the mobile walk is designed as a digital experience.

Trails are also important beyond the town walks. Hiking trails lead to and from Rheinsberg into the countryside and to places of interest. Rheinsberg and its surroundings are also crisscrossed by a well-developed cycling network with a total length of about 40 kilometres. Routes to Rheinsberg branch off from the Berlin–Copenhagen Cycle Route. Many routes through the forests near Rheinsberg are designated bridleways. The options thus vary by mode of transport and landscape: town walks explore historic sites, hiking trails lead into nature, and the cycling network opens up further routes in the surrounding area.

Most of the Rheinsberg municipal area is part of the Ruppin-Stechlin Nature Park. In the wider region, the Rheinsberg Lake District, with more than 70 lakes, also invites visitors to take boat trips and go swimming.
