Explore Tauche: Weather, history and water tours
Accommodation in Explore
When planning your trip to the municipality of Tauche, you can explore several themes: the Weather Museum in Lindenberg, the Ludwig Leichhardt Museum in Trebatsch, the history of the bridge between Trebatsch and Sabrodt, and water tours on the Spree. The highlights range from an interactive exhibition and historic structures to an on-the-water activity. You can decide whether weather, local history or water tours should shape your stay.
Weather observation in Lindenberg
The Weather Museum in Lindenberg offers a family-friendly, interactive exhibition on weather observation, how weather forms, weather reports and climate change. The topics span observation and explanation through to communicating the weather in reports; climate change adds another perspective. During a guided tour, you can watch a real radiosonde launch at the neighbouring observatory of the German Meteorological Service. Arrange the tour with the museum in advance. The Meteorological Observatory in Lindenberg was officially opened on 16 October 1905. This historic date adds a link to the history of weather observation to the exhibition's themes.
Leichhardt Museum and circular walking trail
The Ludwig Leichhardt Museum in Trebatsch opened in 1988 to mark the 175th birthday of the Australian explorer. It is open only by prior arrangement by telephone or email, as well as during events. Therefore, arrange a planned visit with the museum in advance. The museum society organises guided tours and a monthly programme of events. It is also responsible for the revived Leichhardt circular walking trail, which is about 11 kilometres long. In addition to the museum programme, the circular trail offers an independent activity on foot and provides a walking option linked to Leichhardt. This lets you choose between a museum visit and a walk when planning your trip.
Local and bridge history
Trebatsch was first mentioned in a document in 1324. A wooden drawbridge stood between Trebatsch and Sabrodt until 1928. It was replaced by an 81-metre-long reinforced concrete bridge with a carriageway width of 5.20 metres. The bridge was blown up in 1945 and rebuilt in 1956; a complete reconstruction followed in 1992–93. These events mark different phases in the bridge's history: the replacement of the wooden structure, rebuilding after the explosion, and a later reconstruction. The listed Schnitter barracks were built in Lindenberg in 1810. An early documentary reference, bridge history and a listed building therefore offer distinct historical points of interest.
Water tours and practical information
Water tours on the Spree are possible in the municipality of Tauche. Trebatsch has a water-tourist rest area with a natural landing place and space for about 10 to 15 tents; there is no parking there. The natural landing place provides access to the water, while tent capacity and the lack of parking are practical considerations when planning a stop at the rest area. If you plan to bring a tent or arrive by car, take the approximate capacity and lack of parking at the site into account.
