Discover Müllrose between three lakes
Accommodation in Müllrose
Müllrose lies between Lake Katharinensee and the Small and Large Müllroser Lakes. You can choose different focuses for your stay: trails by the water, paddling trips, fishing or historic buildings. The trail lengths and hiking themes also vary considerably.
Lakes and trails around Müllrose
The Three Lakes Trail runs along the Large and Small Müllroser Lakes and Lake Katharinensee. The route, around six kilometres long, starts and ends at the market square. The hiking trail around the Large Müllroser Lake offers a longer circuit: it is nine kilometres long and starts at Müllrose Market. At 25 kilometres, the Schlaubetal Hiking Trail is longer still. This quality hiking trail, certified by the German Hiking Association, leads from Müllrose through the Schlaubetal to Lake Wirchensee. Depending on how far you want to walk, you can choose between a circuit in Müllrose and a longer hike through the valley.
The waterways themselves also give the town a distinctive sense of place. The Schlaube flows through the Large and Small Müllroser Lakes and joins the Oder-Spree Canal near Müllrose. The three fish-rich lakes and the canal offer good conditions for fishing. If you would rather explore the landscape from the water, there is a paddling trip of about an hour and a half that is suitable for the whole family: it runs from the Small Müllroser Lake via the Oder-Spree Canal to Lake Katharinensee and through the Katharinengraben.
Paddling, boats and the lido
Schlaubetal Boat Rental offers guided paddling trips with transport. Marina Schlaubetal rents out everything from kayaks, Canadian canoes and rowing boats to motorboats that do not require a licence, cabin boats and dragon boats. The tours and different types of boats offer a range of ways to enjoy the lakes and waterways. As operators’ offerings can change, it is advisable to check current options in advance.
The lido on the western shore is geared towards water sports and has a sandy beach. Check whether this seasonal facility is open before visiting. This helps you plan the lido and a boat trip as separate activities, rather than confusing them with the longer hiking routes.
Historic buildings and culture
Among Müllrose’s older buildings is the Ackerbürgerhaus. Built in 1689, it is considered the oldest house in the town and is now a protected historic monument. The Bürgerhaus was built in 1696, designated a protected historic monument in the 1990s and subsequently extensively restored. The Protestant church was first built in 1275 in the hall church style. Another distinctive building is the historic fire station with its wooden hose-drying tower, dating from 1925.
More recent public landmarks include the Gildebaum and the Schützenhaus: the Gildebaum is 17.5 metres high and was inaugurated in September 2017; it is considered the largest of its kind in Brandenburg. The Schützenhaus underwent major renovations in 2003 and has since served as a cultural venue for residents and clubs, as well as a venue for town events. Anyone interested in local history can visit the Heimatmuseum, whose permanent exhibitions feature numerous exhibits covering several centuries of the history of the town of three lakes. The Heimatmuseum is currently closed for construction work.
Events and getting around
The Müllrose Lake Concerts are a concert series held on the lakeside promenade. The Musikverein Müllrose e.V. traditionally opens the season on Whit Monday. The Christmas Magic event on the first weekend of Advent features food and drink stalls, live music and carriage rides through Müllrose. As programmes can change from year to year, it is worth checking the dates for each event.
The Schlaubetal Information Centre and the Heimatmuseum are located in the Haus des Gastes. Müllrose is also home to the Schlaubetal’s oldest mill still in production, now the Oderland Mühlenwerke, which has a mill shop; check the shop’s current visitor information in advance. For rail travel, the RB36 operated by Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn runs through Müllrose between Frankfurt (Oder) and Königs Wusterhausen. Check the current timetable and route before you travel.
