Wassersuppe: Village Church and Lake
Accommodation in Wassersuppe
Wassersuppe lies on the shore of Lake Hohennauen, on the edge of Westhavelland Nature Park. If you are looking for a hotel in Wassersuppe, you can choose where to stay based on your interests: time by the lake, a bike ride or a historic building. The lido and the waterway rest area add to the options by the water, while the village church offers a distinct touch of history.
Lake, Lido and Canoe Trip
Wassersuppe has a lido with sports and play areas. A canoe trip on Lake Hohennauen-Ferchesar can begin on the lake’s north shore in Wassersuppe. This offers two different ways to enjoy the water: the lido facilities and a possible trip on the lake. If you are planning a canoe trip, check the current conditions and availability in advance.
The waterway rest area in Wassersuppe has a parking lot. If you plan to use it, check the local conditions before your visit.
Circular Route and Landscape
Several tourist destinations are located around Lake Hohennauen-Ferchesar in the area surrounding Wassersuppe. A signposted, nature-oriented circular route around the lake is about 24 kilometres long and can be cycled. This adds a bike ride around the lake to the options available at the beach and on the water. The stated length is approximate; check local conditions before setting out.
Wassersuppe Village Church
Wassersuppe Village Church is a simple half-timbered hall built in 1756. Inside is a Baroque pulpit altar dating from 1703. The two dates therefore distinguish the older piece of furnishings from the later church building. The altar features carved figures of the four Evangelists. A wooden epitaph commemorates Christoph von Wuthenow, who died in 1705 at the age of three. In summer, the church key is available from a local keyholder.
The church, lake and circular route offer different points of interest to guide your choice: historic architecture in the village, a stay by the water or an active outing along a route in the surrounding area. This makes it easy to choose Wassersuppe based on the things that matter most to you when looking for a hotel.
Historic Attractions in the Wider Destination of Seeblick
Hohennauen, with its own historic attractions, is located in the wider destination of Seeblick. Hohennauen Castle was first mentioned in 1386 and had been protecting the Rhinow region to the south since the late 12th century. After the castle fell into complete disrepair following the Thirty Years’ War, a half-timbered palace was built on its foundations around 1700. The palace was extensively remodelled in 1778 under Hans Ehrenreich von Bornstedt and later partly plastered. In 1928, the building was substantially altered and the central avant-corps was added.
Hohennauen Village Church is also part of this historic landscape. Its brick west tower dates back to a Romanesque predecessor from the mid-13th century; arrow slits identify it as a fortified tower. Beneath the patron’s gallery stands the ornate sandstone sarcophagus of Katharina Hedwig von der Hagen, created around 1769 and bearing a joint coat of arms and inscriptions. Several 18th-century paintings adorn the church interior.
