Milower Land: Havel, Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Milower Land
Milower Land is a municipality in the Havelland district of Brandenburg. The municipality offers different focal points when choosing a place to stay: hikes with specific route details, the Havel landscape and cultural destinations. This lets you decide in advance whether you would rather set aside time for a longer tour, nature activities or a visit with a historical connection.
Hiking trails and protected landscapes
Municipal visitor information lists flyers for the Three Mountains hike, the nature trail, the hike to Galm, as well as local attractions and leisure activities. The availability of these materials may change. A specific route distance is given for the 3-Berge-Tour in Milower Land: the 11.6-kilometre hike starts and ends at the Nature Park Visitor Centre in Milow. The stated walking time is three hours for experienced hikers. This gives you a way to estimate the time needed for the tour without assuming that the same walking time applies to all hikers.
The Havel Cycle Path is one option for cycling in Milower Land. The landscape includes numerous side channels of the Havel, Lanken (small lakes), wet meadows and floodplains, which provide habitats for rare animal and plant species. Large parts of the municipality lie within Westhavelland Nature Park, considered Brandenburg’s largest contiguous protected area. Hiking, cycling and views of the varied wetland landscapes offer different ways to plan your time outdoors.
The Havel, a swimming spot and a canoe rest area
Milow’s natural swimming spot lies on the edge of the “Untere Havel Süd” nature reserve and within Westhavelland Nature and Star Park. Its facilities include a wide sandy beach, a sunbathing lawn, a volleyball court, covered seating and bicycle racks. As visitor information about facilities may change, it is advisable to check the latest details before your visit.
The Milow canoe rest area is a stopping place for boats powered by muscle; overnight stays are not permitted there. There is a shallow, sandy area for getting in and out of boats. Benches and covered tables are also provided. This is a different kind of stop on the water from a rental service: Havel Kanu rents canoes, Canadian canoes and kayaks to individuals or groups of up to 40 people. Paddles, life jackets and maps are included. Information from the operator may need to be confirmed before your trip.
Gardens, the nature park and cultural destinations
Interactive stations are the focus at the Westhavelland Nature Park Centre: a water model, a sound station, a stargazing room and a research table. The Milow Apothecary Garden has a different focus. More than 150 medicinal plants are arranged in twelve themed areas across a 400-square-metre garden. The two attractions therefore offer different ways to explore nature: one features a range of interactive stations, while the other presents a collection of plants organised by theme.
Milow also offers an opportunity to explore its architectural history. The estate complex was converted into a manor estate in the 16th century. It includes a Romanesque barrel vault listed in Brandenburg’s register of monuments. Visits to the half-timbered church in Milow are possible by prior arrangement, so please agree on a time in advance. Protected village churches can be found in almost every district of Milower Land. Open Atelier Days are held in Bahnitz, Jerchel, Milow and Galm, adding to the cultural events across the municipality.
Planning your arrival and stay
Road access is provided by the B 188, B 102 and B 1, which connect Milower Land to the regional and national road network. Check for current notices about possible traffic disruptions before setting out. When planning your stay, you can also choose between different themes: the measured hiking route offers a clear time frame, while the Havel landscape, the natural swimming spot, the canoe rest area and the cultural destinations each appeal to different interests. These attractions are not intended to form a single circular route, but instead offer different reasons to consider Milower Land for your stay.
