Discover Sagritz
Accommodation in Sagritz
Sagritz brings together the historic Kanow Mill on the Dahme, Sagritz Manor Estate and the Gut Sagritz soap manufactory. At the mill, water power meets traditional oil production; the manor estate connects the history of the von Kleist family with the still visible traces of a former park. Two cycling routes pass the mill. If you are planning a stay, you can choose local places to visit that suit your interests in craftsmanship, history or a bike ride.
Kanow Mill on the Dahme
The historic Kanow Mill is located right on the Dahme. A mill has stood here since at least the 16th century and was first documented in 1527. It has been family-owned since 1815; the waters of the Dahme still power it today. The dates mark different milestones: 1527 is the first documented mention, while 1815 marks the start of family ownership. The Dahme is therefore not only the mill’s location, but also its source of power.
Kanow Mill produces edible oils using traditional craft methods, rather than the processes used in industrial oil mills.
Museum room and guided tour
In the museum room, visitors can look through a glass window directly into the production area and observe the oil miller at work. An official guided tour of the historic mill takes place from April to October, on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. It offers insights into the mill’s history and traditional oil production, and includes an oil tasting. If you would like to observe individual steps in the process, the museum room offers this opportunity; the guided tour combines a visit to the mill with historical context and an oil tasting. If you plan to join the tour, check the date before your visit, as the seasonal schedule may change.
Manor estate and soapmaking
Sagritz Manor Estate is a former manor of the von Kleist family. Count Eduard von Kleist had the estate complex built in 1840. Parts of the park are still clearly identifiable from the old trees. The construction date and surviving traces of the park show two different aspects of the estate: its origins and a still visible feature of its former landscape.
The Gut Sagritz soap manufactory makes soap by hand in small batches. The soaps are made exclusively with goat’s milk from certified organic farming, pure plant oils, non-hardened vegetable fats and natural essential oils for fragrance. Small batches describe the scale of production, while handcraft describes the method of production.
Cycling routes and bicycles
The Gurkenradweg passes directly by the Kanow Mill. The DahmeRadweg follows the DahmeMühlenweg past the mill and continues through Sagritz. Both routes share the mill as a point of interest; the DahmeRadweg also continues through the village.
Sagritz Manor Estate has four touring bikes with step-through frames for day trips; they are lent primarily to house guests. If you plan to use the bikes, please check their availability in advance.
