Golßen combines historic architectural styles with a location on the edge of three landscapes and various options for days of cycling and hiking. When planning a stay, you can explore the town’s history, nature and seasonal leisure activities as distinct highlights.

Hotels, guesthouses and holiday apartments are available to visitors year-round.

Townscape and Architectural History

Golßen Town Hall is a three-storey Neo-Gothic building. It was built between 1904 and 1906; its tower was restored between 1992 and 1995. The construction and subsequent restoration represent two clearly distinct periods in the building’s history.

The castle and its park date from the 18th century and feature both Baroque and Neoclassical elements. Golßen Church is a Neoclassical plastered church with a five-sided apse. It was consecrated in 1820, after the previous church was demolished in 1810. Together, these buildings represent various historical styles and periods.

The town centre is home to Art Nouveau townhouses from the fin-de-siècle period. In Altgolßen, the village church was built in the early 14th century on an older Slavic circular rampart. The cemetery beside the church preserves fifteen historic sandstone tombstones.

Landscape and Outdoor Activities

Golßen lies on the edge of the Głogów-Baruth Urstromtal, the Lower Fläming and the Lusatian Basin and Heathland. The Dahme flows near the town. Historic fishponds fed by the river are a distinctive local landscape feature, adding a man-made element to the river landscape.

In the Gehmlitz area north of Golßen, there are irregular and parabolic dunes. Other dune areas between Golßen and Lübben are suitable for hiking. The area around Golßen also offers walks, hikes and cycling tours through a landscape of forests, meadows and waterways; quiet paths and water routes are also part of what is on offer.

Cycling Routes with Different Route Profiles

Golßen’s cycling options include the Gurkenradweg, the Dahmeradweg and the Mühlentour. One circular route runs from Golßen via Kanowmühle Sagritz and Krossener Mühle, through Landwehr and back to Golßen. Another route connecting Golßen, Prierow and Friedrichshof includes a new, well-developed section of the Gurken- und Mühlenradweg.

The specifically named routes differ in form: the circular route returns to Golßen, while the other route connects Golßen, Prierow and Friedrichshof. This makes it possible to distinguish between the options based on their routes, without assuming a distance or duration that has not been specified.

Crafts and Seasonal Experiences

Kanow Mill is one of the oldest oil mills of its kind still in operation and has been run as a family business since 1815. At the farm shop, visitors can get a direct insight into oil production. The Gut Sagritz soap manufactory makes handmade soaps in small batches using organic goat’s milk, plant oils and natural essential oils. Oil production and soapmaking thus represent distinct areas of craftsmanship.

The renovated PlitschPlatsch outdoor swimming pool is open during the summer season and is suitable for children learning to swim. As seasonal opening arrangements may change, check the latest information before visiting.
