Königs Wusterhausen combines historic sights with a lake landscape and the Tiergarten. During your stay, you can focus on history and culture, water activities, or a route through the forest and along the shores.

Palace and City History

Königs Wusterhausen Palace served as the seat of government for Frederick William I and was the meeting place of the legendary Tobacco Cabinet. After extensive renovation and restoration work, it reopened in 2000 and is designated as a museum palace. Visits were possible only as part of a guided tour. Visitors gained insights into the life and royal living quarters of Frederick William I, as well as his era. Check the current tour schedule before your visit.

Museums and Broadcasting History

The Dahmeland Museum presents a permanent exhibition on the history of the Dahmeland and the town of Königs Wusterhausen. Changing special exhibitions complement this display. Three museums in Königs Wusterhausen are within walking distance of the railway station; they tell the town’s history from different perspectives. Königs Wusterhausen railway station is served by regional trains on RE and RB lines, as well as by the S-Bahn.

The wider destination of Dahme-Spreewald also has a special connection to broadcasting history: the Funkerberg Museum is located at the authentic site of the first German radio broadcast. It was transmitted from Königs Wusterhausen on 22 December 1920, featuring a Christmas concert.

Lake Landscape and Water Activities

The lake landscape of Königs Wusterhausen offers beach areas, swimming spots, boathouses, moorings and fishing spots in the town centre and almost all districts. Activities range from paddling and rowing to sailing, water skiing and pedal boating. You can make the lakeshore or activities on the water the focus of your stay.

Tiergarten and Circular Trail

Today, the Tiergarten is a diverse mixed deciduous forest and nature reserve. It was established in 1725 as a game enclosure for the Soldier King. The Tiergarten Circular Trail is 7.5 kilometres long. It can begin and end at Königs Wusterhausen railway station or at the hiking car parks by the Tiergarten. In the wider destination of Dahme-Spreewald, the district’s cycling network—with more than 1,000 km of well-developed, fully signposted cycle paths—is considerably more extensive than the 7.5-kilometre Tiergarten Circular Trail.

The trail runs along quiet stretches of shore by the Staabe and Krimnicksee. Ten wooden sculptures bring aspects of local history to life. At the orchard, the circular trail passes the stone circle “The Twelve Wise Ones,” with a barefoot path, balancing beam and resting area. Husareneck and Spukbrücke are also among the sights along the trail.

The chatbot Herr Fabian was developed for families. It offers entertainment for a half-day trip to Königs Wusterhausen.
