Eiselfing: Nature, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Eiselfing
Eiselfing is a great destination if you’d like to combine nature experiences, outdoor activities and culture on one trip. Local attractions range from protected habitats and walking trails to art in the parish church, a nature trail and sporting activities. For planning, it helps to sort the options by what you’re most interested in: insights into the moor and wildlife, time on the trails, or architectural and art history.
Moor and lake as natural habitats
Murner Filz is part of the “Murn, Murner Filz and Eiselfinger See” FFH site, which covers more than 500 hectares in total. The Filz is under special protection and is home to rare yellow-bellied toads and great crested newts. Eiselfinger See is also part of the named FFH site and is specially protected as a habitat for wildlife and plant life.
You can hike or stroll along the Murn River and walk through Murner Filz. The experiences described range from peace and relaxation to ecological insights into local wildlife and plant life. Different aspects take centre stage: the amphibians mentioned are a specific point of interest in the Filz, while the lake offers a protected habitat for wildlife and plant life.
Nature trails and sporting activities
The nature trail along the Schwarzmoosbach is an option for a family outing. It features more than 100 native and non-native tree species, an unusual wooden bridge and two children’s playgrounds. The Eiselfinger Hoamatrundn offers something different: a varied tour through the municipality of Eiselfing. A children’s quiz accompanies the tour, and information boards provide additional details at selected points. You can choose between a nature trail featuring tree species, a bridge and playgrounds, and a municipal tour with a quiz and information boards.
There’s also an option for getting active on two wheels: the “Weihertrail” bike park at the municipal sports hall is open to children, teenagers and adults. One route is suitable for beginners, while another section is for more experienced riders. The two difficulty levels are clearly distinguished. Kart 2000 adds to the sporting options with a modern kart track and indoor and outdoor circuits. If you’re planning a visit to the bike park or kart track, it’s a good idea to check the latest operating information.
Architecture and art history
During a visit to Eiselfing, consider stopping by the parish church of Saint Rupert. The PietĂ is located at the left side altar. Its signature and the date 1758 on the back identify it as a work by Ignaz GĂĽnther. For art enthusiasts, the attribution of the work is therefore a specific point of interest in addition to its subject.
Another architectural landmark is the rectory in Eiselfing. It was built in 1888/1889 as a two-storey solid gabled building with a knee wall and a structured façade, and is classified as a listed building. The Pietà and the rectory offer different perspectives on local history: a dated work of sculpture on the one hand, and a protected building with specific architectural features on the other.
