Königsdorf: Moorland Trails, Panoramas and Local History
Accommodation in Königsdorf
Königsdorf offers several distinct ways to plan a stay: circular trails through the Königsdorf Moor or past named landmarks, an additional cross-country skiing loop, and routes and places related to local history. You can plan your activities according to whether you want to spend time outdoors or learn about local history through information boards, collections and art. The individual offerings differ in route, activity and how information is presented.
Circular Trails and Cross-Country Skiing
Opened in 2010, the panoramic trail is a circular route through the Königsdorf Moor and up to Dachsberg, where there is a viewpoint. The Königsdorfer Alm and Bibisee circular route has different landmarks: It follows part of the Way of St. James and passes the Königsdorfer Alm, Bibisee and the glider airfield. It starts on Königsdorf’s main street. When choosing between the two routes, the panoramic trail offers a viewpoint and climb, while the other circular route features named landmarks and a section of the Way of St. James. Check trail conditions when planning your specific trip, as they can change.
From Bibisee, you can add an additional 5 km cross-country skiing loop to the Königsdorf glider airfield. Snow conditions and trail grooming depend on the season. Take both factors into account when planning and check conditions for your chosen dates before committing to the loop.
Local History, Art and Observatory
The Königsdorf History Trail comprises 37 information boards and can be explored on foot or by bicycle in three sections. The Königsdorf Local History Museum offers a different way to learn about the past: In addition to an extensive collection of objects from earlier rural life, it presents the history of the town in words and pictures. A route divided into sections and a collection of historical objects thus offer different ways to explore local history.
Three frescoes by Georg Demmel offer further points of interest around town. “The Good Samaritan” is on the painter’s parents’ house, “Trades and Farming” is at the Raiffeisenbank, and “The Church Year” is on the south side of the school. The Isartal Observatory is also in Königsdorf. It has the largest telescope in the Oberland for observing stars and planets. The observatory adds an astronomical focus to the historical themes.
