If you are looking for a hotel in Friedenfels, the local hiking trails can provide a concrete framework for planning your stay. They differ in length, starting point, and theme. This allows you to weigh up whether you prefer a short evening walk, trails with views, or a longer route with cultural connections. The routes can therefore be compared not only by distance, but also by their respective focus.

Hiking Trails by Length and Focus

The 3 km blue circular trail “Adelsfriedhof” (Noblemen’s Cemetery) starts and ends at the village shop. As a short evening walk, it follows quiet paths and offers an unobstructed view toward the sunset. Its length and evening character make it a different choice from the longer trails; the route is defined above all by its views and quiet stretches.

Two 4 km trails both start and end at the Steinwaldhalle. The circular trail “Ausblicke und Bankerl” (Views and Benches) features two reading benches, beautiful views of Friedenfels, sunny stretches, and quiet spots. The Nature and Landscape Trail has a different focus: it runs around Friedenfels along the four elements—fire, water, air, and earth—and a picnic station invites you to stop along the way. At the same distance, you can therefore choose between views and reading benches or the theme of the four elements and a picnic station.

The 10 km Climate and Terrain Trail also starts and ends at the Steinwaldhalle. It connects the town’s cultural sights with panoramic views, making it the longest of the routes listed here. When deciding, consider both the longer distance and the combination of local culture and scenery.

The Climate and Terrain Trail and the two 4 km trails share the Steinwaldhalle as their starting and ending point; the Adelsfriedhof circular trail starts and ends at the village shop. Before setting out, check current trail conditions and route details locally.

Goldsteig, Fish Sculpture, and Landscape

On the second stage of the Goldsteig trail, the route passes a gold-and-blue fish sculpture in Friedenfels. It is one of the “Phantastische Karpfen” (Fantastic Carp). These serve as ambassadors for the centuries-old tradition of pond farming in the Land of 1,000 Ponds. The sculpture thus adds a cultural highlight along the stage and points to the region’s fishing tradition.

The Haferdeckfelsen rock formation also lies along the Goldsteig stage, rising above a pond. Together with the fish sculpture, you will encounter two different motifs on this section: a symbol associated with pond farming and a rock formation above the water. The trails in Friedenfels therefore offer not only different distances, but also a range of themes to consider when choosing your route.

Getting Your Bearings in Town and the Wider Destination

The Steinwaldhalle is in the center of Friedenfels; the Fisch adventure playground is next to it. The hall is also the starting and ending point for the 10 km Climate and Terrain Trail and the two 4 km routes. You can take this central landmark into account when choosing among the three trails.

In the wider destination of Tirschenreuth, the MuseumsQuartier is located in the town of Tirschenreuth. Housed in a former monastery, it combines the Upper Palatinate Fisheries Museum with six other specialized exhibitions. Visitors can explore almost 1,000 years of fishing and fish-farming history and see native fish in four large aquariums. The MuseumsQuartier also regularly hosts special exhibitions, talks, readings, and concerts. Check the dates of individual events before visiting.

The historic Fischhof Bridge and the Fischhof, which houses the district court, are centrally located in Fischhofpark in Tirschenreuth. Zoigl, the Upper Palatinate Forest’s traditional beer, and carp from the pond landscapes of the “Land of 1,000 Ponds” are part of Tirschenreuth district’s culinary identity. These regional themes complement the connections to fish and pond farming you can experience in Friedenfels.
