Accommodation in Wartenberg
If you’re looking for a hotel in Wartenberg, you can plan the main themes of your stay in advance: the history around Nikolaiberg, a hike starting from the market square, or the seasonal swimming options at Thenner See. For planning your routes, you can choose between a specific route in Wartenberg and hiking and themed trails in Erding with stated durations. This makes it easy to compare culture, outdoor activities and time for swimming, depending on what matters most to you.
Nikolaiberg and Wartenberg’s history
The St. Nicholas Chapel stands atop Nikolaiberg, on the site of the former counts’ and dukes’ castle. It is considered Wartenberg’s oldest church. Its association with a former palatine castle complex is assumed but cannot be verified; it was probably built in the 13th century. Wartenberg’s three existing churches bear witness to its later history.
In Manhartsdorf, a village belonging to the market municipality of Wartenberg, a museum documents the relationship between breweries and inns. Since December 2022, Wartenberg’s online museum has provided information about the market municipality, its artists and a wide range of artworks.
Hiking and swimming around Wartenberg
An official district brochure published in 2019 describes a route starting from Wartenberg’s market square and passing Nikolaiberg, Herz-Jesu-Berg and Spatzenberg. The brochure gives the route’s length as 6.7 kilometres, its duration as 2 hours and 5 minutes, and the elevation gain and descent as 140 metres each.
Thenner See is about four kilometres from Wartenberg. Wartenberg’s “Lido” by the lake invites visitors to swim, snorkel, bathe and sunbathe. Facilities and operating arrangements are seasonal and may change, so check the latest information before your visit.
