Discover Unterschleißheim
Accommodation in Unterschleißheim
When planning a hotel stay in Unterschleißheim, you can consider both your journey and your interests in the area. The S1 connects the two stations with destinations in Munich and beyond; the town museum, places of remembrance, and architectural landmarks tell different sides of the town’s history. When choosing your destination, you can weigh whether your trip will focus more on travel, culture, or activity.
Plan with the S1
The S1 serves the Unterschleißheim and Lohhof stations. It runs directly to Feldmoching, where you can connect to the U2, as well as to Munich Central Station and Ostbahnhof. From either station, Munich Airport, Marienplatz, and the city of Freising can be reached in about 20 minutes. These approximate journey times give you a guide when planning your routes; check the current timetable before travelling.
Depending on your travel plans, you may prioritize these destinations differently: perhaps an appointment in Munich is your main focus, or perhaps you also want to reach Freising or the airport. The S1 connections are therefore a concrete point of reference when considering Unterschleißheim as a place to stay overnight. The approximate travel times do not replace checking your connection on the day of travel.
Local history and remembrance
The Unterschleißheim Town Museum presents history and art across around 200 m² of exhibition space. Both subjects are part of the permanent exhibition and offer different ways to explore local history: you can focus on historical developments or engage with art. The museum is therefore a clearly defined cultural option to consider when planning your trip.
Another place of remembrance is located right next to the Unterschleißheim technical and vocational college. A memorial there, consisting of four flax-field sections and seven portrait steles, commemorates the fate of the forced labourers. The 500-metre Path of Remembrance connects the memorial with the learning centre. The memorial and the path go together: one provides a visible sign, while the other establishes a connection to the learning centre.
At the Flachsröste Lohhof place of remembrance, a stele with a QR code provides access to a virtual reconstruction of the flax-roasting facility, as well as historical information and photos. Exploring local history thus extends beyond exhibitions and memorials to include a digital reconstruction. The information and images add historical perspectives to the story of the flax-roasting facility.
The Old Church of St. Ulrich is also part of the town’s historic landscape. Together with the “Alter Wirt” inn to the north, it remains the centre of what was once the farming village of Unterschleißheim. The two buildings do not represent separate chapters; together, they form the historic heart of the former village.
Spring, park, and swimming
The “Valentinsquelle” spring is located in Valentinspark on the southern edge of Unterschleißheim and bubbles up from a depth of almost 2,000 metres. In 2016, following a medical and balneological assessment, it was officially recognized as a therapeutic spring.
A large climbing structure was completed in Rolf-Zeitler-Park, formerly Valentinspark, at the beginning of summer 2024. Colourful tree trunks, wooden ladders, a monkey-bar bridge, and a net tunnel invite visitors to balance, crawl, swing, and climb. As individual elements may change due to maintenance, check the current condition of the structure before your visit.
For a different kind of activity, aquariush Badewelt in Unterschleißheim has a 25-metre swimming pool with six lanes. The pool length and number of lanes describe the facility in concrete terms; if swimming is part of your travel plans, you can take these details into account. Operating details may change.
The local attractions cover quite different interests: the museum, memorial, learning centre, and church offer insights into history and culture; the park and swimming pool provide opportunities for activity, while the Valentinsquelle spring is a distinctive local natural feature. Which of these matters to you depends on your travel plans. Together with the S1 information, they provide a factual overview to help you decide whether Unterschleißheim is the right destination for your trip.
