For a stay in Schwaig, St. Korbinian Parish Church, regular club activities and recurring festivals offer a range of things to explore. The bus connection to the airport is also relevant when planning your trip. If you are looking for hotels in Schwaig, you can plan your stay around an event date, an interest in architectural history, or a desire to get to know a local club activity, for example.

St. Korbinian Parish Church and its architectural history

St. Korbinian Parish Church in Schwaig is the only church in the district dedicated to St. Korbinian, patron saint of the diocese. The present church was built according to plans by Munich architect Johann Schott. Construction began on 15 April 1903, and the church was consecrated on 25 June 1905. This clearly distinguishes the start and completion of the construction period.

Architecturally, the building belongs to the late phase of the Neo-Romanesque style. An older chapel is also part of its architectural history: it was incorporated into the church as a sacristy, which is why the church does not face east. Those interested in church architecture can see the style, construction period and treatment of the predecessor building brought together in one concrete example.

Community life and events throughout the year

One way to get to know Schwaig’s community life is to join the stock sport training sessions of FC Sportfreunde 1913 Schwaig e.V. They take place every Tuesday from 7 p.m. at the Schwaig stock sport hall. Interested visitors can try the sport there; training sticks are provided. For planning purposes, the day of the week, start time and location are specified, and the necessary training sticks are available.

The festival calendar also includes recurring events. A maypole is erected in Schwaig every four years, with all the village’s clubs taking part. Since its founding in 1979, the Bürgerfest (citizens’ festival) has been held annually on the third weekend in June. For the past few years, it has been celebrated over two days, Saturday and Sunday. It is open to the residents of the village as well as guests from the municipality, and anyone can attend. If you would like to plan your trip around the Bürgerfest, check the event dates for the year in question.

A separate event during the Christmas season takes place on Christmas Eve: every year, mulled wine is served at the village square after the church’s Mettn service. In summer, FC Sportfreunde 1913 Schwaig e.V. hosts the traditional Midnight Ball, a tournament for BBQ teams. It takes place on the Saturday before the last day of school before the Bavarian summer holidays. The time references therefore differ: the Bürgerfest is held on the third weekend in June, the Midnight Ball is scheduled according to the school calendar, and mulled wine is served on Christmas Eve.
