Ottobrunn: Hotels Between Culture and Leisure
Accommodation in Ottobrunn
Ottobrunn combines its proximity to Munich with the quality of life of a garden city. When looking for a hotel, you may want to consider not only connections to Munich but also whether you want to focus your stay more on local history, culture, leisure or trips to the surrounding area. Historic memorial sites, a cultural programme, a leisure pool, and bus, S-Bahn and cycling connections offer a range of options. The following features can help you decide what matters most for your trip.
Traces of History
The Ottosäule is a Doric sandstone column topped with a bust of King Otto of Greece. It stands at kilometre marker 12 on Rosenheimer Landstraße and commemorates the farewell of the newly elected King Otto from his father, Ludwig I, and Bavaria on 6 December 1832. It thus combines an architectural feature with a clearly dated historical event.
The Catholic parish church of St. Otto was built in 1936/37 and consecrated on 11 April 1937. The Otto-König-von-Griechenland-Museum attracts well over 1,000 visitors each year. The column and parish church offer different historical points of interest: the commemoration of a single event, and the history of the building and its consecration.
The Waldschlößchen was built in 1902 in Historicist style and currently houses a residence and a restaurant. The term “Historicism” refers to architecture that draws on earlier styles.
Culture and Leisure
The Wolf-Ferrari-Haus offers exhibitions, talks and courses as part of its cultural and leisure programme; the cultural programme also includes cabaret, comedy, theatre and musical productions. This creates a range of reasons to visit: you could attend a course or talk, or plan your stay around a stage or musical production, if there is a suitable date in the programme. If you want to plan your trip around a specific performance, check the current dates, as the programme may change.
The Phönix-Bad combines indoor and outdoor leisure pools with a sauna and spa. This offers a different focus from the Wolf-Ferrari-Haus’s events programme: here, swimming and wellness are the main attractions. As the facilities may change, check what is currently available if you are planning a visit.
Connections and Routes to the Surrounding Area
Nine bus routes serve Ottobrunn or run immediately along the municipal boundary. The town is also connected to Munich’s public transport network by S-Bahn line S5, which runs towards Kreuzstraße, Munich and Pasing. Check the current timetable before travelling, as public transport information can change.
Cyclists can use almost continuous north–south and east–west routes away from major roads. Forests and fields in neighbouring municipalities are also easy to reach on foot or by bike. For planning purposes, this means considering two distinct aspects: cycling routes within Ottobrunn and destinations in the surrounding countryside.
