Ingolstadt brings together riverside parks, the Old Town and museums covering a range of subjects. Klenzepark is a landscaped public park on the southern bank of the Danube. A bridge reserved for pedestrians and cyclists connects it to the Old Town. The park and the city’s historic spaces offer different starting points for planning your visit: a landscaped open space by the river and a glimpse into architectural and cultural history.

Art and City History

The Asam Church of Maria de Victoria was built in 1732/36 as a prayer hall for the Marian Congregation. The church houses a ceiling painting by Cosmas Damian Asam measuring 42 x 16 metres; the Lepanto monstrance is displayed in the sacristy. The prayer hall, ceiling painting and monstrance offer different points of interest, from the building’s original purpose to a single exhibited object.

The Cross Gate is a landmark of Ingolstadt dating from the second half of the 14th century. It was one of four major main gates built during the medieval expansion of the city. The structure can therefore be understood both as a landmark and in the context of the city’s expansion at the time.

Medical History and Literature

The German Museum of the History of Medicine is located south of Ingolstadt’s historic Old Town. Its permanent exhibition tells the story of 18th-century medicine. The museum also has a Baroque medicinal herb garden, inviting visitors to look around, learn and stroll. The exhibition and garden thus combine a historical perspective on medicine with a place designed for spending time outdoors.

The Marieluise FleiĂźer House is a museum dedicated to the life and work of Marieluise FleiĂźer and also serves as a venue for cultural events. The Marieluise FleiĂźer walking tour links historic locations with texts by FleiĂźer, which can be read aloud at each location or read on displays. The house and walking tour offer different ways to explore the subject: through the museum and cultural events on the one hand, and through locations and texts on the other.

Audi, Beer Culture and Getting Around

The Audi museum mobile presents the history of the Audi brand with more than 100 cars and two-wheelers, as well as multimedia exhibits. The Audi Forum Ingolstadt is open to all interested visitors.

The Schanzer Beer Tour is an experiential tour about beer and Ingolstadt’s local brewing history. This adds a tour focused on the city’s beer history to its architecture, literature and museum offerings.

There are also specific ways to plan your journeys by mode of transport: Ingolstadt’s cycling network includes four themed cycle routes that start, end or pass through the city. In the city centre, Stadtbus Ingolstadt GmbH covers about 90 percent of the scheduled services listed in the VGI timetable. If you plan to use specific bus connections, check the VGI timetable as part of your planning.

Choosing a Hotel Location Based on Your Travel Interests

When looking for a hotel, you can start by considering which theme you’d like to shape your stay: sacred art and city history, medical history, literature, Audi or beer culture. Then check how the location you want fits with the places you plan to visit.
