Around Braunersberg, hiking trails offer different distances, estimated times, and routes. There are also natural areas nearby and destinations such as the Knockhütte and Therme Obernsees. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, the specific trail details can help you plan outings by duration and named locations.

Hiking Trails: Routes, Distances, and Times

The Mohrenstein circular trail runs from Obernsees via Braunersberg, the Knockhütte, and Truppach to Therme Obernsees and back to Obernsees. It is 7 kilometers long, has an elevation gain of 120 meters, and takes about 3 hours. The trail is marked with a green ring; the section through Braunersberg is signposted in both directions. This means that both the approximate time and the elevation gain are available for this loop.

The marked Kuckucksweg “To the Knockhütte” is about 9 kilometers long; the stated duration is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. After the Knockhütte, the trail descends steeply to Braunersberg. From the district, it crosses the Ehrlichbach and continues via Burgleite and past the Untere Mühle toward Busbach.

In a direct comparison of the figures, the Kuckucksweg is longer than the 7-kilometer Mohrenstein, but has a shorter stated duration. The Mohrenstein also has an elevation gain of 120 meters as an additional route detail.

The Mohrenstein circular trail also includes a wayside cross with a bench intended for prayer or rest, as well as a section through the “Schöne Aussicht” residential development. After descending from the Knock, the circular trail reaches Braunersberg and then continues through this development. The Lindig circular trail offers a different perspective: above the hamlet of Gries, there is a view of Braunersberg. The Schönfeld circular trail runs above the districts of Braunersberg and Gries and returns to its starting point in Schönfeld via a forest path.

Nature and Destinations in the Surrounding Area

The “Knock bei Obernsees” nature reserve lies between Obernsees and Schönfeld and covers about 14 hectares. North of Braunersberg, the “Ehrlichbachaue bei Obernsees” FFH site extends along the Ehrlichbach. The Ehrlichbach is also called Busbach, so both names are used to refer to the same watercourse.

The Knockhütte is nearby. It offers drinks and snacks, play facilities for children, an e-bike charging station, a barbecue area, and shelter for hikers. As its operations may change, it is advisable to check before visiting whether the facilities are currently available. This lets you include a possible rest stop in your route planning without assuming fixed opening hours.

Therme Obernsees is a destination on the Mohrenstein circular trail. It offers indoor and outdoor areas, various pools, a sauna complex, attractions for children, a spacious wellness area, and restaurants. There are 40 motorhome pitches directly next door, with a service station and supply point. When planning the trails around Braunersberg, you can therefore consider the hiking routes and the thermal spa as different destinations for your stay.
