Weißenhorn combines a historic old town with cultural attractions and signposted routes through woods and meadows. There are different ways to plan your trip: you can focus on the town’s history and theater, or explore outdoor trails and seasonal activities.

Explore the old town on audio tours and walks

The Weißenhorn audio tour takes visitors through the historic old town and brings the town’s history to life through audio. It is available free of charge via the Bayerisch-Schwaben-Lauschtour app, which can be downloaded from the App Store. Before your trip, check whether the app is still available.

The night watchman tour with Paul Silberbaur offers another historical perspective. It leads through the quiet lanes of the old town, past historic half-timbered buildings and important historic landmarks. The night watchman’s song, halberd, horn and lantern are all part of the tour. A guided town walk starts at the Upper Town Gate, built in 1494, and continues to the Catholic parish church of the Assumption of Mary.

Museums, theater and local history

The Archaeological Museum of the City of Weißenhorn displays traces of the Stone Age, remains from the Roman period and examples of everyday life from the Middle Ages and early modern period. The collection includes a medieval gravestone from Attenhofen, with a Hebrew inscription on its reverse.

The Weißenhorn Local History Museum was founded in 1908 and has an exceptionally extensive collection for a town of its size. It is closed until further notice due to renovation work. Check whether it has reopened before planning a visit.

Weißenhorn’s historic skyline also tells the story of its architectural history: at the southern end of the former wall ring, the Fugger Castle and imposing parish church define the townscape; the massive gate towers are other distinctive features. The Historic Town Theater Weißenhorn has a neoclassical auditorium with 140 seats and is considered Bavaria’s smallest theater. Markets have been a centuries-old tradition in Weißenhorn.

Routes and outdoor excursions

Signposted Nordic walking and running routes include loops ranging from 4 to 19 kilometers. They pass through woods and meadows, as well as along paved sections, and take in the districts and Pfaffenhofen. The range of route lengths makes it easy to choose shorter or longer loops to suit your plans for the day. The Waterfowl Loop starts at Weißenhorn railway station, Herzog-Georg-Straße 11. The town also features cycling tours in and around Weißenhorn.

The Neu-Ulm district’s model garden is located nearby, west of Weißenhorn. The Garden Paradise Loop leads to the model garden, the historic old town and the town park. Visitors can find inspiration for tending their own gardens in harmony with nature. Free guided tours of the district model garden are available for groups of ten or more by appointment.

During the summer months, the town park hosts a varied program of sports, music, open-air cinema and other activities. If you would like to include a specific event in your trip plans, check the event dates in advance.
