Triesdorf combines its history as a margravial summer residence with garden culture, fruit processing and agriculture. A stay here can focus on a range of themes: preserved buildings, tree and apple collections, an annual agricultural festival, and cycling routes with a focus on nature and culture.

Summer Residence and Preserved Ensemble

From 1600 to 1791, Triesdorf served as the summer residence of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach. The ensemble preserved to this day includes, among other buildings, the White Palace, the Cavaliers’ Houses, also known as the Dutch Houses, the Falcon House, also known as the Red Palace, the Riding House, the Jägerhaus and Villa Sandrina; remains of the red wall have also been preserved.

The Margravial Summer Residence invites you to stroll through the historic grounds in a park-like setting. One particular point of interest in this historical context is the garden at the Red Palace, which was restored in 2008/2009 based on historical models. On your walk, you can take in both the preserved ensemble and an individual garden feature with its own restoration history.

Trees and Fruit Culture

The Triesdorf Tree Trail leads to 21 native and southern tree species. The Pomoretum has a different focus: this six-hectare historic garden brings together Triesdorf’s apple collection. The distinction between these garden-related themes is clear: the tree trail focuses on different tree species, while the Pomoretum features the apple collection within a historic setting. If you are interested in both, their different emphases can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.

The various fruit harvests in Triesdorf are processed at an on-site distillery and cider press. Products made from them can be purchased directly in Triesdorf or at regional markets. Together with the apple collection, this makes the fruit culture tangible not only as a garden collection, but also through processing and opportunities to buy the products.

Agricultural Festival and Cycling Routes

Johannitag, Triesdorf’s major agricultural festival, has been celebrated annually since 1976. Its agricultural focus offers a different way to experience the town than its historic residence and gardens. If you would like to combine your trip with the festival, check the date for the relevant year.

A loop of the “Meister (r)Ade(l)bar – with the stork in the Altmühl Valley” cycle route passes the storks’ nests in Triesdorf. The Tore-Türme-Schlösser cycle route (TTS cycle route) runs through Triesdorf and offers a cultural perspective on the Franconian Lake District. Along the route, you can discover traces of cultural history, from Roman times and the Middle Ages to Baroque buildings. The routes have different emphases: one focuses on the storks’ nests, while the other highlights cultural-historical traces from several eras. This can help you choose whether to focus your cycling trip on the storks’ nests or on cultural history.
